Scotland’s largest producing theatre is looking for a highly motivated, experienced Scenic Carpenter join our team. This role will suit someone with a knowledge of set construction and woodworking and some metalwork.

JOB DESCRIPTION

POST: SCENIC CARPENTER / Metal work

LINE MANAGER: MASTER CARPENTER

MAIN PURPOSE OF POST: To carry out maintenance tasks and to assist in the construction of sets

OUTLINE OF RESPONSIBILTIES

1. To build sets and props using many different materials to designs and specifications supplied by the designer.

2 To ensure that all work is carried out to the satisfaction of the Master Carpenter.

3. To deputise for the Master Carpenter in case of absence.

4. To work with the Stage Departments to fit up productions on stage.

5. To carry out any other duties in relation to the smooth running of the department.

6. To be aware of current Health and Safety legislation.

7. To make a positive contribution to the work of the RLTC as a whole.

8. To carry out any other duties which may be required by the Master Carpenter or Workshop Manager. ROYAL LYCEUM THEATRE COMPANY

PERSON SPECIFICATION

POST: SCENIC CARPENTER / Metal work

Essential:

1. Knowledge of set construction and woodworking. Skilled woodwork and some metalwork .

2. Ability to turn hand to new skills and work with a variety of materials.

3. Awareness of current and relevant Health and Safety legislation

4. Flexibility

5. Ability to work unsupervised.

6. Communication skills & ability to work in a team

7. Ability to read drawings accurately

Desirable:

1. Able to weld both mig & arch.

2. Computer skills: CAD etc.

3. Active interest in theatre

4. Clean driving license. SUMMARY OF TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Position: Scenic Carpenter

Hours of Work: Your hours of work will normally be 35 hours per week (exclusive of meal breaks) or such other hours as required by the Company from time to time. The nature of your work and responsibilities may necessitate your working longer hours than this and you may be required to work reasonable overtime, for which extra payment will be made in accordance with the TMA/Bectu Agreement .

Salary: c. £21,000 dependent on experience

Method of Payment: Paid weekly or monthly in arrears by credit transfer into a bank account nominated by you in writing.

Holidays: 4 weeks increasing plus public holidays

Pension: The Lyceum operates an auto-enrolment pension policy with a matched contribution of 2.5%.
