Her clinical practice is based in the intermediate care Trauma Unit, where patients with traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury or multi-system injuries (thoracic, abdominal, orthopaedicetc) are admitted. Proactive discharge planning is a central component to her clinical role. She has developed numerous medical directives for the nurses in the Trauma unit to increase their autonomy in caring for trauma patients. Alanna’s leadership role encompasses manager of Trauma Services at TOH. As lead trauma hospital for the Champlain Local Health Integration Network since 1991, Trauma Services provides tertiary clinical support, education and quality initiatives to all those caring for trauma patients in our region . Her research initiatives have focused on identifying the needs of family members of patients with severe traumatic brain injuries and she has presented this data at numerous conferences, including presentations in Newfoundland, Belgium and New Zealand, as well as publication in the CJNN (Canadian Journal of Neuroscience Nursing).
Jennifer Payne, RN, MHS, Nurse Educator Neurosciences TOH Jennifer graduated from nursing school in 2000 from Sir Sandford Fleming College and Trent University hybrid program.
