______(attach additional page if needed) Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship – Nomination and Selection Process

The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship is to be awarded to a student who exemplifies the life and spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The recipient can be a person of any age, seeking post-high school education or training to better themselves, their family, and their community. Academic excellence is not a pre-requisite.

For 2017, the scholarship will be a grant of $500. One, or perhaps two scholarships will be awarded.

The recipient(s) will be chosen from a group of persons nominated by members of this community, using the attached nomination form. All nomination forms will be reviewed by a Scholarship Committee. The most promising nominees will be invited to meet with the Scholarship Committee to discuss their situations and educational plans. Following the interviews, the Scholarship Committee will select the scholarship recipient(s). The schedule for the steps in this process is as follows:

Nomination Forms available: January 15, 2017

Last Date for Submitting a Nomination Form: February 28, 2017

Committee Evaluates the Nomination Forms: March 1 to March 31, 2017

Committee Interviews Selected Nominees: April 1 to April 30, 2017

Committee Awards Scholarship(s): May, 2017

The scholarship recipient(s) will be recognized at next year’s Celebration of the Life and Work of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at Central United Methodist Church.
