CUAAA Award 2017__

Since 2008-09, the Chinese University Architecture Alumni Association has been donating annually to the School of Architecture, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), to support its Master of Architecture students to travel and study overseas during summer holidays.

Aims of the Award 1. Foster students’ interest in architectural investigation; 2. Provide opportunities for students to research an architectural topic outside Hong Kong; 3. Increase students’ ability to understand and appreciate architecture in a global context; 4. Encourage students to gain overseas architectural experience through field studies and apprenticeship; 5. Enhance interaction between alumni and students.

Features of the Award 1. The Award sponsors a travel study programme on a particular architectural topic in an overseas country; 2. The selected programme must be realised in the year awarded over a period of at least three weeks; 3. There is no restriction on the location in which the proposed programme takes place.

Eligibility Students of the Master of Architecture (Year 1) with outstanding ability in architectural studies and strong potential for further development.

Amount of Award HK$15,000

Responsibilities of the Awardee Before the programme 1. Formulate a travel programme (including objectives, content and a budget plan) approved by the supervisor.

During the programme 2. Keep a travelogue and/or a sketch diary, as well as an expenditure account.

After the programme 3. Submit a travelogue to the donor on time, as stipulated in the undertaking; 4. Produce a booklet about the programme for future access by students of the School; 5. Present and illustrate observations, findings and reflections out of the programme in the form of an exhibition to be held at the School.

Application Procedures 1. The School will send an invitation email to eligible students in Term 2, AY 2016-17; 2. Interested students should submit the following documents in softcopy to the General Office at [email protected] by the deadline on 3 May 2017 (Monday): a) A completed application form, including - A proposed supervisor in the School to provide guidance related to the set-up of the programme; - Research-based study focus of the proposed programme; - A statement of how the CUAAA Award will benefit the applicant’s future education and career. b) A copy of academic transcript(s), including results of Term 1 of AY 2016-17. 3. Shortlisted applicants may be invited to attend a selection interview. Details will be announced in due course.
