Chief Peguis Parent Advisory Council November 14, 2011 Meeting Minutes
In attendance: Carmen Walker, Doug Nowicki, Roberta Hoogervorst, Lori Gomes.
1. Meeting called to order 6:23 pm.
3. Minutes Acceptance MOVED by Roberta H., SECONDED by Carmen W., and CARRIED.
4. Correspondence:
Parent Council received the monthly newsletter from MAPC Lori G. sent lighting concern letter to Neil Hastings (RETSD Maintenance Director), with copy to Dennis Pottage (RETSD Superintendent/CEO), and Mr. Nowicki.
5. Discussion: Healthy fundraising Peak of the Market details provided by Lori. Peak of the Market has a fall fundraiser whereby we would sell vegetable bundles for $10 (3 lb carrots, 3 lb yellow onions, 5 lb red potatoes) or $20 (5 lb carrot, 1 lb parsnips, 3 lb onions, 10 lb red potatoes, 1 head green cabbage), with a 50% profit. PAC members feel that this is worth looking into and will re-dis- cuss for the Fall 2012. Lori mentioned that PAC should have a mailbox in office for members to use. Mr. Nowicki stat- ed that this would be done.
6. Principal’s message:
Mr. Nowicki advised that the Board of Trustees has announced that Kelly Barkman will be the new superintendent of River East Transcona School Division effective February 1, 2012.
Lighting over the front doors of the school has been fixed thereby providing some improve- ment to the parking lot. Mr. Nowicki is working with maintenance to get one more additional light in front of the school.
Oct. 28th Halloween fun day: well organized, dance was fun filled, went smoothly.
Nov. 10th Thank you to those involved with the Remembrance Day assembly.
Reminder - The Chief Peguis Christmas Band Concert will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at the North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, 1315 Gateway Road The new TTT computers have been installed (teacher workstations, room 45 lab and graphics lab) and all computers have been updated to Windows 7.
Moneys from fundraising will help go toward the teachers’ request of 10 to 15 more pro- jectors, approximately 35 sets of speakers, and the required cables and extension cords for projectors. Administration will look for the best deals and do the purchasing. PAC will be provided with a report on the costs of the foregoing request.
7. Fundraising:
Mr. Nowicki told the group the cookie dough sale made an approximate $7,000.00 profit. Mr. Nowicki discussed with PAC a fundraising activity, in addition to the cookie dough sale already done by the staff. He asked the PAC to spearhead the sale of Sobey’s Gift Cards in Feb/March in conjunction with the CPMAA band parents.
Carmen will approach the CPMAA regarding Mr. Nowicki’s request of PAC and CPMAA combining forces for the Spring Sobey’s fundraiser.
Lori mentioned PAC doing pizza days for a general school fundraiser. To be addressed at a later date.
8. Other Business:
Lori mentioned creating a Good Deeds – Appreciation – Gratitude Bulletin Board for all of the Chief Peguis students, staff and parents to share and see in the school. Mr. Nowicki advised Lori to check with Mr. Osiowy regarding “Gocha Cards” (recognition of students doing good deeds). Lori to investigate ideas to help out with similar types of recognition.
Lori asked if food is available before school for students in need. Mr. Nowicki stated that Ms. Gupta has food available for those in need before school and at lunch.
Lori inquired about the possibility of providing money from PAC to fund scholarships for students for summer camps. Examples: Winnipeg Art Gallery, Manitoba Theatre for Youth. To be re- visited at later date.
8. The Chair once again requested that someone volunteer for the positions of Secretary, Fundraising Chair and, if necessary, a Treasurer. Lori volunteered to try the Secretary position. From the Chair --- thank you Lori.
