A RESOLUTION Adjourning the House of Representatives in Honor of Rabbi Jonathan Friend Adland

A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in honor of Rabbi Jonathan Friend Adland. WHEREAS, it seems appropriate from time to time for this honorable body to recognize special people who have enriched the lives of so many Kentuckians; and WHEREAS, Rabbi Jonathan Friend Adland was born on April 22, 1954, a native of Washington, D. C.; he is the devoted husband of Sandra Chapman Adland; and he is the loving father of a son, Joshua E. Adland, and a daughter, Rachel H. Adland; and WHEREAS, Rabbi Jonathan Friend Adland earned his bachelor of arts degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri; he attended Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel from 1974-75; in 1981, he earned his M.A.H.L. from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he was also ordained a Rabbi in 1982; he served as assistant Rabbi from 1982-85 at Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation in Indianapolis, Indiana, and as associate Rabbi from 1985-86; and he has served as Rabbi of Temple Adath Israel in Lexington since 1986; and WHEREAS, since 1988, Rabbi Jonathan Friend Adland has taught Contemporary Judaism and Dialogue Between Christians and Jews at the Lexington Theological Seminary and, from 1991-1996, he taught Judaism and Monotheism Theodicy at Midway College; and WHEREAS, Rabbi Jonathan Friend Adland is an active and involved citizen, and an esteemed member of the Fayette County community where he has held numerous offices with Lexington Planned Parenthood, the United Way, The Interfaith Alliance of the Bluegrass, Resource Office for Social Ministries, the Lexington Commission on Housing and Support Services Executive Committee, the Fayette County Family Planning Advisory Council, and the University of Kentucky Religious Advisory Staff; since 1995, he has been on the member panel for FEMA allocation distribution for the Lexington-Fayette County District; he was organizer, co-founder, and Executive Committee member of DART; he has served on the University of Kentucky Medical

Center Pastoral Care Committee and the Kentucky State Family Planning Advisory Council; he was founder and chairman of Lexington's Clergy Campaign for the Homeless, where he also served as treasurer; he has served on the Fayette County Schools Superintendent's Advisory Task Force, the Fayette County Schools Crisis Response Team, the Fayette County Schools Safe Schools Task Force, the Fayette County School Board's Parenting and Family Life Education Planning Task Force, the Markey Cancer Center Advisory Council; and he has been a member of the Lexington Rotary Club since 1990; and WHEREAS, Rabbi Jonathan Friend Adland has held chaplaincies at Ft. Harrison, Indiana, the Indianapolis Veteran's Administration Hospital, the Indiana University Medical Center, Fairbanks Hospital for Drug and Alcohol Abuse Rehabilitation, and the Federal Corrections Institute in Lexington; and WHEREAS, Rabbi Jonathan Friend Adland is past chairman of the Central Conference of American Rabbis' Mentors Network for Curriculum Implementation; he was co-chairman of the Southeast Asian Resettlement Committee at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion; and he served on the UAHC Education committee Task Force for pre-school, parenting, and family education; and WHEREAS, Rabbi Jonathan Friend Adland is the recipient of the 1994 Community Action Council Outstanding Service Award "Clergy Campaign for the Homeless," the

1992 United Way of the Bluegrass Outstanding Kentucky Volunteer Award, and the 1992 YMCA Distinguished Service Award; NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby honor and applaud Rabbi Jonathan Friend Adland for his immeasurable contributions to the citizens of this Commonwealth. His extraordinary vision and leadership has brought light and inspiration

to so many lives, and we wish him success in all future endeavors. Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in honor of Rabbi Jonathan Friend Adland. Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Rabbi Jonathan Friend Adland, 4692 Carita Woods Way, Lexington, Kentucky 40515.
