2008 South Dakota Special Education Programs and Transition Services Liaison Project Joint Conference
This joint conference will provide all special education personnel the opportunity to learn new information, discuss what is happening in the world of special education, and network with others who share the same passion for education. This conference was designed to address specific topics/questions that are often addressed to Special Education Program (SEP) office staff, as well as provide in- depth transition training for secondary teachers. The Transition Services Liaison Project has “teamed up” with the SEP office to include their “Summer Institute Transition Training” as part of this Joint Conference.
Beginning Monday, June 23 at 8:30am through Wednesday, June 25 at 1:30pm, the sessions will highlight behavior, dyslexia, and differentiated instruction. Beginning Wednesday, June 25 at 1:30pm through Friday, June 27 at 5:00pm, will be the transition to adulthood training.
Graduate Credits Available!
Graduate credit hours will be available through Black Hills State University to participants attending this conference. Two credit hours will be available to participants attending the full week (Monday-Friday). One credit hour will be available to participants attending Mon-Wed only, OR Wed-Fri only. The cost of each credit hour has not been determined yet, but should be approximately $40.00. Application and payment for credit(s) must be made at the registration desk on June 23 (or June 25 for the transition training).
Hotel Accommodations
A block of rooms has been set aside until May 23, 2008 at the Best Western Ramkota Hotel, 920 West Sioux Avenue, Pierre, SD. Phone 605-224-6877. Registrants are responsible for making their own hotel reservations. Please contact the Ramkota directly to make your reservation. Identify yourself as a registrant of the “Department of Education” Conference.
Note to Parents of Children with Disabilities
The South Dakota Council on Developmental Disabilities (DD Council) will provide financial assistance for the registration fee to parents of children with developmental disabilities. The DD Council can also provide you with a travel expense stipend form. Contact the DD Council at 1-800-265-9684. Both non-profit and for-profit organizations have been invited to share their displays. Vendor displays will be open during the conference on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 24-25, and will be highlighted during a social from 5:15-6:15 pm on Tuesday. A cash bar will be available, and hor d’ourves are provided courtesy of RehabAction. Please take time to thank them for their generosity!
