1. Entering the Wilderness

1.1 Some people seek God in the wilderness – Paul 1.2 Some people serve God in the wilderness – John the Baptist 1.3 Some people are kept safe by God in the wilderness – David 1.4 Some people are sentenced by God to the wilderness – Israelites Numbers 14:2 And all the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them, "If only we had died in the land of Egypt! Or if only we had died in this wilderness!

Numbers 14:30 ‘Except for Caleb… and Joshua… you shall by no means enter the land which I swore I would make you dwell in.

1.5 Some people are sent to the wilderness – Jesus “Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness” vs. 1 Mark 1:12 “The Spirit drove Him into the wilderness”

2. Enduring in the Wilderness “Being tempted for forty days by the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry” vs. 2

3. Being Examined in the Wilderness vs. 3-12 The wilderness presents temptations:

3.1 To take matters into our own hands vs. 3 3.2 To take shortcuts vs. 5-7 3.3 To question the Father’s care a. To challenge the timeliness of His provision vs. 3 b. To doubt the goodness of His purposes vs. 5-7 c. To test the reliability of His promises vs. 10-12

4. Exiting the Wilderness “Now when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time. Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out through all the surrounding region.” Vs. 13-14
