Host Agency Presentation

Crash Marusich with Ada County Emergency Management gave an overview of Ada County Emergency Management. Some highlights include; ACEM participates in a joint community effort for planning, host their Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), are the second largest Emergency Management agency in Idaho (second to BHS), and are a staff of 5.5. You can find ACEM on the web at adacounty.id.gov or accem.org.

Sub-Committee Updates

We currently have two sub-committees formed; the VRC and the EOP/SOP committees. Neither committee has met and gotten started. In discussing the goals/purpose and members on these two committees, it was recommended that we combine these committees and re-vamp the leadership and membership. Dave Tish has agreed to act as the lead for this newly formed committee and will work to get the first meeting scheduled.

1 Update on WUNCCIL

Wade Gayler gave an update on the new “long-term recovery” group formed in Northern Idaho called WUNCCIL (Wildfire Unmet Needs Committee serving Clearwater, Idaho and Lewis county.

There are 4 Case Managers/Disaster Resource Specialists who have taken case management training provided by UMCOR and are meeting with those in the communities who have been affected. Once the case managers have identified unmet needs, those will then be presented to the executive committee for review and approval/denial.

IDAVOAD will continue to function as their fiscal agent to receive monetary donations and hold that money before being allocated and sent back into the communities through WUNCCIL.

There is a woman affiliated with Mennonite Disaster Services who will be working as a grant writer for the group to help seek and raise funds. She will be providing this service free of charge.

Wade Gayler made a motion to make a donation to WUNCCIL from IDAVOAD in the amount of $3000.00. This donation to WUNCCIL can be used by the group for administrative expenses or unmet community needs. Robert Unrau seconded the motion and the group approved.

Sleep In Heavenly Peace

Jordan Allen gave a presentation on a non-profit organization called, Sleep In Heavenly Peace. This organization was started ~4 years ago by himself and a long-time childhood friend of his. They build and provide bunk beds to those in need. They seek donations from a number of organization and businesses to buy the materials and host “build days” where crews and volunteers can come together to build ~12-15 beds in approximately 6 hours. To date, they have built and donated over 300 beds to those in need and have recently donated beds to those affected by the fires this year in North Idaho. If interested in assisting or know of those in need, please contact Jordan at [email protected] or visit the website at sleepinheavenlypeace.org
