Works Cited List Exercise Instructions

Convert this improperly formatted Works Cited List into proper MLA style. All the necessary citation information for entry is provided, but in scrambled order and with additional unnecessary language you’ll need to delete. The goal of this exercise is to get you familiar with using your handbook and web-based citation resources, of which you will be totally dependent on.

First, identify the kind of source being cited, and then locate the source example in the MLA Works Cited index in A WRITER’S REFERENCE. General format rules: the entries should be in alphabetical order by the first letter of the author's last name, or if no author is listed, the first letter of the title of the publication, and so on. Use A WRITER’S REFERENCE as resources, along with the stuff on the “Research Center” on the course web site.

A book by Edward Abbey called Desert Solitaire that was published in 1998 by Ballantine Books of New York.

An article from the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, January 17, 1998 issue titled, "Michael Jordan isn't Ghandi." The writer is James Doohan. The article is in the C section on page 2.

Article found through Proquest titled, “Coyotes love suburbs, but feeling isn't mutual; locally and across the country, the animals are creating comfortable lives in the suburbs, and that's causing safety worries among the human residents.” It’s from the Minneapolis Star Tribune and was published there on December 22, 2006 on page 1a.
