Researcher – Novel Medical Technologies BioInnovate Ireland Ref. No. NUIG-89-14 The Project: BioInnovate Ireland is a program created to enable innovators and innovations focussed on medical technologies by providing experiential learning opportunities through multi-disciplinary team-based activities.

The Position: Applicants are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the role of BioInnovate Researcher to drive the design, development and commercialisation of novel medical technologies. The position is initially available for a 12 month fixed-term contract with the opportunity for continuation. As the position involves engagement with numerous stakeholders (internal and external), it is essential that the postholder has excellent interpersonal and communication skills to explain the intricacies of the multi-disciplinary BioInnovate activities and projects to people from a variety of backgrounds including academia, clinicians and industry.

It is essential that the postholder has experience of working closely and developing relationships with academics, clinicians and industry in a multi-disciplinary research and educational environment. The main duties of the post include liaising with internal and external stakeholders to ensure development of medical device innovations and innovators, contribution to the strategic planning, the identification of new funding opportunities and the presentation of BioInnovate’s translational, educational and research activities.

The postholder will:-  Support the Director and steering committee with the development and management of BioInnovate’s medical technologies.  Identification of funding opportunities (including industrial sponsors) and contribution to the application for research grant  Manage research projects including the co-supervision and mentoring of researchers.  Proactively engage with the development of strategies aimed at maximising outputs.  Presenting BioInnovate’s activities, expertise and technologies to industrial, clinical and academic partners.  Generate and contribute towards publications emanating from the research  Assist with the development of interactions with national and international institutions and industries  Organisation of educational workshops, training courses and seminars for graduate students, industry and clinical professionals.  Coordination and provision of educational and technical services for industry and clinicians.  Be responsible for ensuring that the outputs of the programme are presented to stakeholders with a view to commercial developments.  Have responsibility for the fiscal management of research grants. Essential criteria for selection include:  An honours degree in Science, Engineering, Business or Medicine and a PhD in a relevant area.  Experience working in an inter-disciplinary medical technology innovation environment  Candidates are required to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills by providing evidence of relationship management across multiple stakeholders including industry, funding agencies and academic bodies.  Proof of strong communication skills (written and oral presentation) for communication and dissemination of programme information to multiple audiences including lay, student, postgraduate, academic, clinical and industry representatives  Expertise in curriculum development, coordination of delivery and optimisation of training programmes  Evidence of coordination and hosting of public events

Applicants must also have project management and financial management experience as well as recruitment of key talent in a multi-disciplinary research environment.

The postholder must be able to demonstrate initiative, be self-motivated and possess strategic vision.

Salary: €63,000 fixed per annum (public sector pay policy rules pertaining to new entrants will apply)

Start date: Position is available from November 1st 2014
