MENIFEE ---- Officials were awarded about $17 million in state funds for a third middle school under construction in the Menifee Union School District.

The money was part of $259 million awarded by the State Allocation Board, the policymaking body of the Office of School Construction. Those dollars are used to build new schools, refurbish aging campuses and make emergency repairs on schools throughout the state.

The unnamed middle school is being built off Sherman Road east of Interstate 215. It is slated for completion in July.

Among the awards announced Wednesday, the state board also allocated $155,204 to the Perris Union High School District for emergency repairs.
