Race and racism in Urban Education: Focusing on how issues of race and racism shape social ecologies and structures of education in urban contexts.

CURRENT POSITIONS

Graduate Research and Teaching Associate - Center for Urban Education Support research projects focused on teachers’ beliefs about engaging in race talk with their students, a communitywide collective impact initiative by a local public school district, prospective preservice teacher training, and student academic and social development.

Manage the manuscript submission process from initial submissions to final editorial decisions and production, providing support for submitting and prospective authors.

Director of Community Impact (2006-2007) United Way of the Capital Area (Jackson, MS) Supported grant making and program evaluation activities focusing on academic enrichment, financial support, and healthcare access as well as led Hurricane Katrina disaster recovery and assistance efforts.

Principal Investigator (Narratives of adult sociopolitical youth development workers) Lead researcher examining the life history narratives of adults who work as educators and mentors for youth organizers and activists.

Principal Investigator (Peer engagement as sociopolitical youth development praxis) Lead researcher examining how youth engage their peers around issues of social justice and equity. Co-principal investigator: Rich Milner, Ph.D. (University of Pittsburgh)
