In Spring 1997 I developed a new interdisciplinary course with Professor Dorothy Glass in Art History called "Heaven Hell & Judgment"—a survey of the great verbal and visual texts of eternal punishment, reward and judgment from ancient Sumer to modern film. Since 1999 I have taught the course cross-listed in five departments---Classics, Art History, History, English and Religious Studies.

With Bruce Jackson in Spring 2000, I instituted The Buffalo Film Seminars, a classic cinema class set in a downtown theater open also to the public. The Spring 2008 Seminar is the sixteenth. It was awarded the Artvoice 2007 Best Film Series Award.

I have directed twenty-three completed PhD dissertations and have six in progress. I have served on the committees of over seventy-six other PhDs. Christian— 17
