Employment at the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House Housed in one of Australia’s most prominent national heritage listed buildings, the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House was the first museum in Australia dedicated to telling the story of the journey of our democracy. It seeks to provide a range of innovative exhibitions, tours, interpretation, education programs and public activities that will inspire and challenge visitors to explore democracy from its ancient roots to the present day and possible futures. ABOUT THE FINANCE TEAM: The Finance team is responsible for the financial management of OPH including, internal financial control, financial delegations, Accountable Authority Instructions (AAI’s), administrative procedures, accounts payable and receivable, asset management, and external and internal budgeting. The agency maintains two sets of accounts one for the running of the agency and the other for administering assets on behalf of the Commonwealth:  Departmental – include the running costs of the agency and assets such as the associated collection and library, equipment, Prime Ministers exhibition and software assets; and  Administered – include the heritage building and furniture and the Galleries of Australian Democracy. THE ROLE:  Establish and maintain internal controls that will withstand the scrutiny of internal and external audit and ensure satisfactory resolution of internal and external audit findings.  Ensure completeness of the monthly financial information.  Preparation of timely and accurate financial reports, including monthly reporting to management.  Provision of advice on accounting standards and matters of compliance as a Commonwealth Agency.  Identify and address technical issues in the application of taxation and financial legislation, and accounting standards.  Assist the CFO to implement system change.  Assist in the management and co-ordination of the annual asset stock-take.

KEY ATTRIBUTES:  Highly skilled and qualified to undertake accounting and financial management services.  Ensure financial practices and procedures are in accordance with the Australian Accounting Standards and relevant Commonwealth Government legislation and guidelines.  Background in government accounting and manage the accounting requirements of a small Commonwealth agency.  Good knowledge of accounting issues important in the Commonwealth environment and experience in preparing monthly and annual financial statements is essential.  Proactively seek out business improvement opportunities and implement solutions.  Work under limited direction and take initiative.  Excellent written and oral communication skills.
