Position Purpose

WNC Volunteer Coordinator will provide administrative, communication and planning support for the WNC volunteer program supporting over 100 volunteers. WNC volunteers support quality projects and programs for diverse audiences that build lasting relationships between people and the natural world.

Essential Functions

1. Coordinates changes and maintains database, systems and files resulting in data integrity and streamlines the information collection while adhering to established standards.

a. Maintain WNC Volgistics accounts, ensuring quality and current data on volunteers.

b. Maintain WNC volunteers awards database for annual and special recognition awards.

c. Tabulate volunteer training evaluations and general surveys for program direction.

2. Organize and coordinate resources to ensure accurate, timely and complete delivery of work.

a. Develop, promote and maintain volunteer recruitment efforts for needed positions.

b. Communicate with volunteer administration support networks to stengthen program.

3. Coordinates projects that prioritize tasks in a clear, manageable and achievable task resulting in efficient processes.

a. Coordinate staff needs for volunteer tasks, projects and programs throughout the year.

b. Coordinate large-scale site stewardship projects with WNC and SMM staff, engaging outside community groups and corporations.

4. Flexible in work style and awareness of needs to be able to adapt to situations and successfully fulfill the needs of internal and external clients. a. Maintain an effective working relationship with WNC and SMM staff and volunteers, as well as schools, community organizations, families and other potential audiences. b. Coordinate new volunteer interview to orientation process. Coordinate schedules, training and staff contacts for new volunteers, as well as questions and concerns.

5. Write communication clearly and succinctly in a variety of style and settings. a. Coordinate volunteer communications via blog, newsletters, email, flyers and phone calls. b. Update and distribute annual volunteer handbook and directory to 100+ volunteers. c. Support use of online calendars, database, email, listserv and power point resources. d. Draft column and volunteer resource information for WNC volunteer newsletter.

6. Assist with the coordination, planning and organization of various events ensuring a warm, friendly, and inviting atmosphere for all event participants and guests. a. Participate and assist in coordinating volunteer outings/retreats, enrichment series, trainings, and banquets. b. Attend WNC Volunteer Advisory Committee meetings in support capacity. c. Support volunteer lounge with communications, supplies, resources and collaboration.

KSAs – Cognitive Skills

1. Software: Volgistics

2. Software/Microsoft Office Suite: Basic Word, Excel and PowerPoint Functions, Formatting Documents, Outlines, working with templates and forms, and working with tables and columns.

3. Teaching and presentation in a public format: Ability to express oneself clearly both in speaking and writing.

4. Writing – Basic: Ability to write in routine coherent sentences with appropriate grammar and punctuation.

KSAs - Physical Skills

1. Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings is required.

2. Clean driving record and completion of criminal background check required for hire.

KSAs – Other Skills 1. Education: BS/BA in communications, volunteer administration, education, or related field is required

2. Experience: Experience in written and oral communications, and program development.

3. Experience: Experience working with volunteers. Experience working with youth, families, parents, teachers, schools, community education, and community organizations a plus.
