National Identity Worksheet
A country’s “identity” is similar to someone’s “personality”. Each country, and person, is an individual. And some of the same things that make people unique (your style, personal history, culture, language, tastes, values, likes/dislikes, hobbies, family, hometown) also contribute to a country’s unique “national identity.” Use the internet to look up the various countries listed below and identify the factors that contribute to their national identity.

Do you think Canada has a national identity that is markedly different from our American neighbours, or are our two countries fairly similar? Explain your choice with the use of several examples and personal experiences. Also, do you feel the similarities or differences you see between Canada and the United States are looked at the same way by Americans? Or by people that do not live in North America?
