PRESS RELEASE

 IPL CRICKET BETTING SYNDICATE BUSTED.

 FOUR PERSONS ARRESTED INCLUDING KINGPIN WHO IS A MECHANICAL ENGINEER.

 1 TV, 40 MOBILE PHONES, 1 MOBILE SIGNAL BOOSTER, LAPTOP, PRINTER, VOICE RECORDER ETC. RECOVERED.

INTRODUCTION:

Crime Branch has busted a betting syndicate in Rohini, Delhi in its continued crackdown against betting syndicates operating during the ongoing IPL season. 4 persons involved in the betting syndicate have been arrested and 40 mobile phones, one T.V. set, mobile signal booster, one laptop, Printer, voice recorder alongwith notebooks for entering the bets have been recovered. An information was received by SI Praveen of Anti Snatching Cell, Crime Branch that there will be betting on IPL cricket league match to be played between Sunrises Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians on 30.04.14. It was also learnt that the racketeers also provides betting lines to other bookies. A team led by Inspector Bhagwati Prasad comprising of SI Sanjay Kumar, HCs Lakhwinder, Vinod, Azad, Sanjay, Sandeep, Sanjeev, Cts Kavinder, Rajesh, Himansu, Ravinder and Ashok was constituted under the supervision of ACP Ram Mehar Singh and overall supervision of DCP Kumar Gyanesh to develop this information and to nab the culprits.

On specific information that the betting racket is being run from H.No. 86, Green Hill Apartment, Pocket-1, Sec-23, Rohini, Delhi, immediate raid was conducted after observing necessary legal formalities and 4 persons were nabbed who were later identified as (i) Rakesh Sethi @ Chaudhary (45 years) s/o Late Jai Pal Chaudhary r/o H.No.5/100, Indira Colony, Sonipat Haryana, (ii) Bantu Nagpal (33 years) s/o Ved Prakash Nagpal r/o H.No.7241, Gali No.12, Sukera Basti, Abohar, District Fajilka, Punjab, (iii) Sanjay Hasija (32 years) s/o Late Ram Lal Hasija r/o H.No.508/13, 4 Marla, Sonipat, Haryana and (iv) Vishu Sethi (22 years) s/o Late Vinod Sethi r/o H.No.1041, Prem Nagar, Gali No.6, Abohar, District Fajilka, Punjab. Accused Rakesh Sethi @ Chaudhary is a Mechanical Engineer. Lure of making quick money ended him to run a betting syndicate. 40 mobile phones, one TV set, 1 voice recorder, 1 mobile signal booster, 1 signal receiver, 1 laptop, 2 set top boxes and books being used in the bets were recovered and a case vide FIR No.48/14, u/s 3,4,5 DPG Act, PS Crime Branch Delhi has been registered.

The accused persons were accepting bets in person as well as through mobile phones. They were also providing lines to several other bookies. Three mobiles phones were being used as “Dabba” to broadcast rates to the bookies. The betting amount of the match till the time of the raid was Rs.25 lac approximately and the gang has so far accepted betting amount to the tune 1 crore in the ongoing IPL season.

RECOVERY:

On integration, the accused persons disclosed that they used to put bets on cricket matches. Subsequently, they decided to work as bookies as well as to provide betting lines to small bookies. The accused persons were earlier operating from Sonipat, Haryana but local police was suspicious about their activities so they decided to shift to Rohini area to run their operations in rented premises so that their activities remain unnoticed in a new locality.

PROFILE:-

1. Rakesh Sethi @ Chaudhary (45 years) s/o Late Jai Pal Chaudhary r/o H.No.5/100, Indira Colony, Sonipat Haryana is the kingpin of the syndicate and he is a Mechanical Engineer. 2. Bantu Nagpal (33 years) s/o Ved Prakash Nagpal r/o H.No.7241, Gali No.12, Sukera Basti, Abohar, District Fajilka, Punjab is a school dropout and earlier he used to sell vegetables in Abohar Subzi Mandi, Punjab.

3. Sanjay Hasija (32 years) s/o Late Ram Lal Hasija r/o H.No.508/13, 4 Marla, Sonipat, Haryana has studied upto 12th standard and earlier he owned a mobile shop in Sonipat, Haryana but due to heavy losses in business, he got indulged in cricket betting.

4. Vishu Sethi (22 years) s/o Late Vinod Sethi r/o H.No.1041, Prem Nagar, Gali No.6, Abohar, District Fajilka, Punjab is a graduate from Punjab and he has earlier worked as a salesman with a footwear shop in Abohar, Punjab.

SPECIAL CHECKING AGAINST DRUNKEN DRIVING HELD ON 02.05.2014 (FRIDAY) FROM 7.00 PM TO 12.00 MIDNIGHT.

 420 Drunk Drivers prosecuted.  363 Vehicles impounded.  131 owners prosecuted.

In the series of intensive prosecution against drunk driving, Delhi Traffic Police has launched a special drive against drunken driving on 02.05.2014 from 7.00 p.m. to 12.00 midnight. The drive was held at about 130 vulnerable points in all 43 traffic circles and as many as 620 officers/officials were deployed with sufficient numbers of Alcometers for intensive prosecution against drunk drivers. During the drive, total 420 drunk drivers were prosecuted and as many as 363 vehicles were impounded. 131 vehicle owners have been prosecuted.

All TI Circles and ACsP Districts were available during the drive for exercising effective supervision and ensuring strict prosecution activities. It was ensured that all violators are being provided with fresh blow pipe while conducting breath test.

The break-up of the prosecution is :- 236 Scooters/Motorcycles, 155 cars, 8 TSRs, 6 HTVs/LGVs/MGVs, 2 Buses, 5 Delivery vans, 1 Gramin Sewa and 07 others.

Besides prosecuting the violators, they were also directed to report for counselling session at Traffic Police Headquarters located at Dev Prakash Shastri Marg, Pusa, New Delhi on 03.05.2014 at 4.00 p.m. where they were subjected to attend educational lectures as well as showing short films on drunken driving. The counselling was made by Sh. Rohit Sharma of an NGO “The Way to Happiness Foundation (India). In addition, a written pledge was also taken from the errant drives that in future they will not indulge in drunk driving. Educational literatures for safe driving were also distributed during the session. Vehicles were released to the rightful owners of the vehicle who have attended the above session and signed the pledge.

DESPERATE ROBBERS ARRESTED : BOOTY RECOVERED SIXTEEN CASES SOLVED

The staff of PS Preet Vihar arrested two desperate robbers Pintoo @ Anuj Sharma and Sonu @ Aman, involved in dozen of robberies. 15 cases of robberies/snatchings have been solved with their arrest.

INCIDENT:-

In view of the spurt in incidents of snatchings and robberies, the staff was sensitized and the presence of the staff was enhanced in the area of East District in order to put a check on the incidents as well as to nab the criminals. On 02.05.2014, Ct. Dalbir and Ct. Ghasi Ram were patrolling in Chitra Vihar area when they noticed two persons on a motorcycle, who robbed a chain from a person and tried to flee away. When they were given a chase, the pillion rider even opened fire but the duo were apprehended with the help of the public. A case under appropriate sections was registered against the accused at PS Preet Vihar.

MODUS OPERANDI :-

Interrogation of the accused revealed that they used to ride the motorcycle in search of targets and used to snatch the heavy chains at gunpoint. The gun carried by them was also used to thwart any resistance and they even didn’t hesitate to open fire.

PROFILE OF THE ACCUSED

1. Pintoo @ Anuj Sharma s/o Ram Shiromani r/o Sai Properties, 1 st floor, Chhaju Pura, Babar Pur, Delhi (permanent address – Village Surur Pur PS Malipur Distt Faizabad – UP) is 24 years old. He works in Eureka Forbes Company and lives separately from his family and wife who are residing at their native Village. He came in to Contact with Sonu at Seemapuri Border and in order to earn easy money, he joined Sonu in committing chain snatching/robberies. They Committed several incident in different areas of Delhi.

2. Sonu @ Aman s/o Ramesh Chand r/o H. No 284, Katra Gulshan, Gali Robin Cinema Wali, Subzi Mandi, North District, Delhi is 27 years old. He is unemployed and previously also involved in several cases of robberies/snatchings. He was first arrested in 2008 and found previously involved in 13 such cases.

FAKE SNATCHING CASE BUSTED WITHIN 24 HOURS

The staff of police station Rajouri Garden, West District has succeeded in busting a fake case of snatching registered vide FIR No. 499/14 dated 2.5.2014 u/s 356/379/34 IPC PS Rajouri Garden. Arjun Singh S/o Late. Avadh Kishore Singh r/o B-37, Double Storey, Ramesh Nager, Delhi who is a salesman of Vodafone Company has been arrested in this case.

NAME & PROFILE OF ACCUSED ARRESTED

Arjun Singh s/o Late. Avadh Kishore Singh r/o B-37, Double Storey, Ramesh Nagar, Delhi. He is 10th class pass and presently working with Vodafone as a salesman for the last six years.

RECOVERY MADE

RS. 1,40,000/- cash along with recharge coupon of Vodafone Company worth Rs. 98,000/-

CASE WORKED OUT

Case FIR No. 499/14 dated 2.5.2014 u/s 356/379/34 IPC, PS Rajouri Garden has been worked out within 24 hours.

INCIDENT AND TEAM

On 02.05.2014 complaint reported that he was going to his house after collecting sale collection of Rs.1,40,000 cash and Vodafone recharge coupon worth Rs.98,000/- on his motor cycle. When he recharged at T-Point Tagore Garden, two boys came from behind on a black pulsar motor cycle and snatched his bag containing Rs.1,40,000 and coupon worth 98,000/- and fled away. He could not note down the number of motor cycles. The boys were in the age group of 20-25 years. He could identify them. On the above statement the above said case was registered. To nab the criminals a dedicated team including Inspr. Sunil Kumar, SHO/Rajouri Garden, SI Ram Pal and ct. Jasbir was constituted under the close supervision of ACP/Rajouri Garden. On sustained interrogation, the complaint confessed to hatch a fake snatching plan. Rs. 1,40,000/- cash and Vodafone Recharge coupon worth Rs. 98,000/ have been recovered at his instance. INTEROGATION AND CONFESSION

On sustained interrogation accused Arjun Singh s/o Late Avadh Kishore Singh R/o B-37, Double Storey, Ramesh Nagar, Delhi confessed to hatch a plan of fake snatching case to grab the recovery collection amount and coupon of the Vodafone Company.

Staff involved in good work is being rewarded suitably.
