Post: Hackney Sickle Cell Engagement –Project Officer
Base: Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Centre- 457 Queensbridge Road, Hackney, E8 3AS and occasionally Sickle Cell Society Offices – 54 Station Road, London, NW10 4UA.
Accountable to: Activities Co- ordinator
Manages: Volunteers
Hours: 17.5 hours per week (2.5 days per week)
Salary: £15,000 per annum for 2.5 days a week (£30,000 pro rata per annum)
Length of contract: Fixed term, 12 months
Job Purpose
The Sickle Cell Society (SCS) is a national Charity focussed on supporting people living with Sickle Cell Disorder (SCD) and their families. The SCS has been commissioned by London Borough of Hackney to deliver a programme of community events, training, support and engagement sessions for individuals/families affected by SCD in Hackney, working in close partnership with Hackney Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Centre and Homerton NHS Foundation Trust and the local Patient/Family Support Group. The Project Officer will also be working closely with the Activities Co-ordinator who works with children in the borough.
The role of the Project Officer is to work in partnership with colleagues at the Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Centre, Homerton Hospital and the local Patient Support Group to deliver an effective local advice, training, relaxation events and support service for patients with SCD and their families. This is a fantastic opportunity to coordinate and deliver an innovative project. You will empower people with SCD and their families to better manage their condition thereby improving their short and long term health outcomes, independence, wellbeing and reducing reliance on emergency care services where appropriate.
Key responsibilities and duties
Working with the Activities Co-ordinator to collaborate with the local Support Group, to coordinate activities in the borough Provide support to children undergoing the transition from paediatric to adult Sickle Cell Services and their families, through activities and events To develop and facilitate group training and support sessions for patients/families/carers, covering adults, children (12-16), health professionals and parents/carers in conjunction with the Activities Co-ordinator. To recruit, train and manage a small group of approximately four volunteersTo collect, collate and analyse data from the programme of work to provide both qualitative and quantitative information for internal purposes, for the London borough of Hackney and for external evaluation To manage a budget associated with the project Work with volunteers to quality check data regularly and review progress against the project outcomes To report back to the Activities Co-ordinator on a monthly basis and produce regular quarterly reports on progress for the Sickle Cell Society Chief Executive and Trustees and London Borough of Hackney as required.
Expectations To work in close partnership with the local NHS and the local patient/family Support Group To ensure that all work with patients, families, health and social care professionals as well as other stakeholders are managed professionally and effectively Report any issues of concern relating to safeguarding and quality of care arising from the work of the post To ensure regular liaison internally and externally takes place To act as a member of the Sickle Cell Society team and carry out any reasonable duties as requested To act as an ambassador for the Sickle Cell Society To be able to work flexibly
