Language Arts: We Have Written About What Makes Them Special and Things They Like to Do

January 13, 2017

Current Events: With the snow days, we will now celebrate our 100th day of school, on Thursday, January 19…if no more snow days occur. Each child has been asked to bring a food item for us to make a special trail mix of 100 munchies. If you cannot send the item in, let me know, and I will purchase the needed item. Enjoy having your children home on Monday. The PALS results are not sent home mid-year, but the data will be used to re-adjust reading groups and plan intervention groups for Power-Up. However, I will be happy to discuss your child’s progress with you with a pre-arranged conference. Feb. 16 & 17 is the next scheduled Conference Days from 6:00-8:00 & 8:30- 11:30. Thanks for the home support! Language Arts: We have written about what makes them special and things they like to do in the winter. Our reading groups will start back up next week as we have completed the PALS for mid-year. Math: During the Math block, I have been assessing the children on the 1 minute timed drills and 2 minute computation of addition and subtraction facts. Then, they have been verbally counting the skip count patterns of 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s and counting down from 30. Social Studies: Learning to use a time line and putting story pictures of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in sequence on a time line are what the children have learned to do this short week.

Week A Rotation Schedule:  Monday, January 16th: No school for students  Tuesday, January 17th: WRE/Library  Wednesday, January 18th: Guidance & Music  Thursday, January 19th: P.E.  Friday, January 20th: Music

Our friend, Sonny Wyatt, has moved to a new home in Stanley, Virginia. If your child has made a Valentine card for her, I will mail these to her. I know that she will be excited to hear from her classmates!

Over, please
