Good Shepherd Episcopal Church and School share a 4-acre campus in the thriving seaside community of Jupiter/Tequesta, in southeast Florida. Good Shepherd Episcopal Church was established in 1958, but its roots go back to the very first church in the North County area, St. Martin’s Episcopal, begun in 1896. A program-sized church with an average Sunday attendance of 350, Good Shepherd Episcopal Church has long served as an anchor and integral part of the Jupiter/Tequesta community. GSES, which is celebrating its twenty-five-year anniversary this school year, was established by the Church as a way of providing children in our community with high quality education in the context of a caring Christian environment. GSES is fully accredited by the Florida Kindergarten Council and the Florida Council of Independent Schools. The student enrollment is about 120 students, preschool ages 2 through Grade Five. Grades K-5 have one class per grade. The operating budget for the 2016-17 school year was approximately 1.33M dollars. Currently, church and school together are developing a comprehensive Strategic Plan, shepherding a new vision of leadership and growth.

Job Description – Head of School

Duties:

- Work in partnership with the School Board to establish and articulate the school’s mission to all constituencies – students, staff, parents, alumni, church and the community at large.

- Collaborate with, and accept direction from, the Rector, recognizing that the Rector is responsible in all matters pertaining to both church and school.

- Create an environment that supports academic rigor, quality and innovation.

- Design and implement ways to achieve school goals; evaluate and monitor the progress of achieving strategic goals and initiatives.

- Attract, retain, develop and evaluate faculty and staff; conduct regular class-room visits and follow-up discussions.

- Manage school assets, budgets, operations and resources with ethical and fiscal integrity. - Work comfortably with multiple constituencies, including faculty, students, parents, board members, church members and volunteers, in a decisive, fair and consistent manner.

- Proactive in marketing, public relations and fundraising, including ability to identify opportunities for community partnerships.

- Visionary leader who can help frame a compelling vision of Good Shepherd’s future, and articulate it to energize the community and other stakeholders to lend their support. - Exceptional planning and organization skills, including ability to make decisions in a timely manner. - Models and inspires a high level of integrity, fairness and honesty, reflecting our Episcopal identity and incorporating Episcopal core values. - Team builder; is accessible, and communicates effectively with all constituencies. - Believes the individual child is God’s creation and is valued above all else, and creates a protective nurturing environment in which children can grow. - Embraces our Episcopal identity, and leads by example by being an active participant in the Church of the Good Shepherd and its activities.

Requirements:

- Master’s Degree or higher, preferably in Education Administration, Elementary Education or a related field.

- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a head of school, assistant head of school, or head of curriculum, preferably at the elementary school level.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
