(Specifier Note: The purpose of this guide specification is to assist the Specifier in correctly specifying IRUS rear projection screens and their installation. The Specifier needs to edit these guide specifications to fit the needs of each specific project. References have been made within the text of the specification to MasterFormat section numbers and titles. The Specifier needs to coordinate these numbers and titles with sections included for the specific project.

Throughout the guide specification, there are Specifier Notes to assist in the editing of the file. Desired options for substrate material, formulation of optical coating, tint of optical coating, surface treatments, sizes, method of installation, frame type and finish need to be noted. Brackets have been used to indicate when a selection is required. Unless noted otherwise, the first option is the standard feature. Contact a Draper, Inc. representative for further assistance with appropriate product selections.

IRUS (Infinite Resolution Uniformity Screen) rear projection screens are specifically for single lens, high resolution projection technology such as SXGA and UXGA. The acrylic screen provides the total screen area with uniform resolution and brightness. Rear projection screen systems must be properly designed and constructed in accordance with guidelines provided in Draper product literature. An AV consultant or expert should be involved whenever possible. Coordinate protection against light spills with flat black paint, doors with room-in-use warning lights, and windows sealed with lightproof shades specified in other sections.)

0.2 REAR PROJECTION SCREENS

A. Infinite Resolution Type Rear Projection Screens: Acrylic, rear projection screen designed for use with single lens, high resolution technology capable of providing optimum displays with uniform, crisp, ultra-fine images.

1. Basis-of-Design: IRUS - Infinite Resolution Uniformity Screen (Specifier Note: SELECT one of two substrates paragraphs and basis-of-design sub-paragraphs below. Glass substrate is recommended for maximum sound isolation, scratch resistance and service life. It is flatter than acrylic in large sizes, providing better image resolution but weighs approximately twice as much as acrylic, breaks more easily and should be installed by a glazier. Maximum screen size is 72 by 150 inches (1829 by 3810 mm) for 1/4 inch (6 mm) thickness, 126 by 204 inches (3200 by 5182 mm) for 3/8 inch (10 mm) thickness, and 126 by 289 inches (3200 mm by 7341 mm) for ½ inch (13 mm) thickness). Acrylic substrate is lightweight, durable and break resistant. It is easier to install than glass but requires more care in cleaning since it will scratch more easily. It is less soundproof than glass and not recommended for multiple projector installations. Maximum screen size is 90 by 160 inches (2286 by 4064 mm) for 1/4 inch (6 mm) thickness, and 104 by 192 inches (2642 by 4877 mm) for 3/8 inch (10 mm) and ½ inch (13 mm) thickness.

a. Substrate: Clear, select quality plate or float glass.

1) Basis of design: IRUS, as manufactured by Draper, Inc.

b. Substrate: Clear, select quality acrylic. 1. Basis of design: IRUS, as manufactured by Draper, Inc.

(Specifier Note: The thicker a substrate is, the more rigidity it has. Since maximum screen size is limited by the thickness of a substrate, an AV consultant should determine initial substrate thickness requirements. The mechanical engineer and architect should then determine if environmental considerations, such as air pressure from HVAC systems, or program use, such as detention facilities, require a thicker substrate. The optical quality is not affected.)

2. Thickness: [1/4 inch (6 mm)] [3/8 inch (10 mm)] [1/2 inch (13 mm)]
