Physical Education Syllabus s1

OAKRUN PHYSICAL EDUCATION SYLLABUS

Physical education goes well beyond learning and playing games. Physical education and health should provide students with the knowledge and skills to continue with good physical health as they grow. The activities will be centered on individual and team sports. Students will engage in more advanced activities that develop cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, and flexibility. The class will focus on working in groups to accomplish goals in both cooperative and competitive activities. Students should begin to find lifelong fitness activities that fit their individual needs. This class will focus on teaching them how to use games and fitness to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Goals: · To be educated in the principles of fitness. · To demonstrate improvement in each of the areas of health related fitness. · To fully participate in all the activities provided and demonstrate skill awareness. · To exhibit positive attitudes and accept differences in others with encouragement to all. · To learn the basic fundamentals of sports · To learn exercises that one can carry with them throughout their lifetime

Grades: Students will receive their grades based on 50% for participation (which may include unit or skills tests) and 50% for dressing out. A student may earn a total of 20 points daily (example: 10 points for total participation and 10 for dressing out). A weekly participation/dressing out grade will be given for each student.

Dress code must meet these requirements: - All physical education students are required to dress out each day. - A preferred uniform is available to purchase (grey shirt and blue shorts) - Otherwise, T-shirts must be school colors (blue, white, black, grey, or navy) - Shorts must be school colors (blue, black, grey, or navy) and must be fingertip length or longer. - Tennis or running shoes are required - Hair must be tied back (hair out of face) - No Jewelry - No Gum

Each time a student fails to participate fully or dress out using the above requirements, they will lose points off their weekly grade. Parent/doctor’s notes: · A parent note may excuse a student from participation for a maximum of three days. A doctor’s note is required for non-participation longer than three days. (Please include parent home or work number on note as well as date). Students must still dress out if physically able to do so to receive their 10 points for dressing out. · Students will be required to complete written or alternative assignments in order to earn the day’s 10 participation points. Absences Like all other classes, students are responsible for making up their absences by doing an alternative assignment. Full credit will not be given until each absence is made-up. Each student has the six weeks time to make up any day they were absent within that cycle. (4 sprints for a workout day, 2 for game day) Lockers: · Students will be issued a locker-but if they don’t dress out the locker will be taken away. · The school is not responsible for lost or stolen items. It is the student’s responsibility to lock up personal items in their assigned locker.
