Week 01-13-14
English- We will continue our style and word choice in poetry and talk about what we can learn from poetry. We will also continue looking at verb forms.
Math-This week we will start looking at linear equations. Graphing linear equations, variation, and inverse variation will be our focus.
Science-We will begin discussing scientific names of living things. Classification and the kingdoms will be our discussion.
History-We will be talking about the crisis and absolutism in Europe from 1550 to 1715 this week.
Practical Reading and Writing-We will continue our work with resumes this week. Each student will prepare their own resume.
Week 01-07-14
English-This week we will look at style and word choice in poetry. We will also look at “past” verb forms.
Math- We will begin this semester identifying functions. Function is the relationship between two numbers.
Science-Our topic this week will be the environment. We will look at people and the environment and solving environmental problems.
History-We will be talking about Africa in an age of transition and Asia in the era of the spice trade.
Practical Reading and Writing. We will begin working on our resumes again this week.
Week 12-16-13
English- This week we will look at some verb forms. We will continue our look at American poetry. We will be talking about the implied meaning.
Math- We will continue working with equations using multi-steps and variables on both sides.
Science- This week we will take a closer look at ecosystems and niches.
History- We will try to finish up our look at the Renaissance this week. Practical Reading and Writing- Using the correct tense verb with the subject and correct spelling of those words that sound alike but mean different things and are spelled different.
Week 12-09-13
English-This week we will look at poetry on a literal level. We will continue our study of Subject and Verb agreement.
Math-We will be working on negative exponents and Fractional exponents. Later this week we will look at writing equations from word problems.
Science- This week we will look at organisms and their environment.
History-We will continue with the Renaissance. Our discussion will be on the intellectual and artistic.
Practical Reading and writing-We will continue with our map reading and look at timetables.
Week 12-2-13
English-Because of the short week before Thanksgiving we will continue with our study of American Poetry. We will also be looking at Subject and Verb agreement.
Math-We will begin this week looking at classifying numbers and Absolute values. If time allows we will begin a look at writing an equation from a table.
Science- This week we will talk about animal behavior, communication, and social behavior.
History- We will finish up our look at Mesoamerica and start our introduction to Renaissance and Reform.
Practical Reading and Writing- We will look at some different dictionaries and talk about some dictionary skills.
Week 11-25-13
We only have two days this week, everyone have a good Thanksgiving!
English-We will continue looking at American Poetry theses two days.
Math- We will finish up our review this week. Monday after the holiday we will begin looking at theoretical probability.
Science-This week we will begin looking at animal behavior.
History- We will continue our look at Mesoamerica. Practical Reading and Writing- This week we will look at check writing and banks.
Week 11-18-13
English- This week we will begin our look at American Poetry. We will also compare possessive and plural pronouns.
Math- We continue with our review of polynomials, and solving inequalities, and how to use mean, median, and mode.
Science-This week we will discuss human evolution and modern humans.
History- This week we will begin our study of the Americas with a look at the early Native Americans of North America.
Practical Reading and Writing- We will continue with proofreading skills looking at punctuation and capitalization.
Government- class discontinued.
Week 11-11-13
English-This week we will work with contractions and “self” pronouns. We will also look at the universal themes of nonfiction.
Math- We will continue with polynomials and solving inequalities. If time allows we will touch on mean, median, and mode.
Science-We will look at the origin of life, life in the oceans, and life on land.
History- We will finish our discussion of the middle ages and begin talking about the Americas.
Practical Reading and Writing- We will return to work on our resumes at a later date. This week we will work on proofreading sentences to make sure they make sense.
Government- We will look at the checks and balances in our system and the structure of the constitution.
Week 11-04-13
English-This week we will look at implied information and analyzing nonfiction. We will also be working with possessive and reflexive nouns. Math- Polynomials is our subject this week. We will look at adding, subtracting, and multiplying. If time allows we will start on inequalities.
Science- We will continue our study of evolution and natural selection and take a look at the origin of life.
History-We will continue our look at Europe in the Middle Ages, if time allows we will start to look at the Americas from 400-1500.
Practical Reading and Writing- We will be working on resumes this week. Everyone will prepare their own resume.
Government- We will continue with the philosophy and principles of the Constitution and start on the structure of the Constitution.
Week 10-28-13
English-We will again look at the literal level of nonfiction. We will also be looking at Nouns, pronouns, and verbs.
Math-We will continue with solving equations. We will work with one -step, two -step and multi-step solutions.
Science-We should be able to finish our look at genes this week. If time allows we will begin to look at evolution and natural selection.
History-This week we will discuss Europe during the middle ages. We will talk about trade, cities, and the peasant’s life.
Practical Reading and Writing- How to create a good resume will be our focus this week, and what is important to include for a good impression.
Government-This week we will cover the philosophy and principles of the constitution since we were unable to cover them last week.
Week 10-21-13
English-We will look at Nonfiction to understand what the authors are saying on a literal level. We will also be working with prepositions and prepositional phrases. Math-We will begin writing equations with one and two variables this week. After writing the equations we will work with solving those equations.
Science-We will finish up on our unit about DNA and Gene expression. There will be a test this week.
History-We will slow down our pace this week and look more closely at the European Kingdoms of the Feudal systems, and the Crusades.
Practical Reading and Writing-This week we will discuss the difference between successful and unsuccessful communication in the work place.
Government-We begin looking at our own Constitution. What are the philosophies and principles that were written into this document?
Week 10-15-13
English- We weren’t able to begin our unit on Nonfiction, so we will begin this week. We will also start on using negatives correctly and finding double negatives in sentences.
Math-This week we will look at fractions and decimals as percent including finding percent increase and decrease.
Science-We will continue our look at genes. This week we will talk about genetic disorders, DNA, and Gene expression.
History- After we finish with the Feudal System we will look at the beginning of the English Kingdom, the Crusades, and Middle Ages.
Practical Reading and Writing- We will concentrate on proper word usage, punctuation and spelling in professional correspondence to assure clear understanding.
Government-We will begin our study of the Constitution by exploring the philosophies and principles in the Constitution.
Week 10-07-13
English- This week we begin our look at Nonfiction. We will look at the types of nonfiction and some of the authors. We will continue with parts of a sentence. This week we will look at modifiers. Math- We will try to finish up our unit on fractions but will continue with decimals.
Science- After finishing with mitosis and meiosis, we will begin looking at genetics and inheritance.
History-This week we will look at the Frankish kingdom and explore the principals of the Feudal System.
Practical Reading and Writing- We will continue our talk about specific jobs and discuss come of the paperwork and forms that are involved with those jobs.
Government- We will look more closely at a comparison of a Democracy and a Dictatorship.
Week 09-30-13
English-This week we will focus on what we can learn from fiction. What was the author’s perspective? We will also begin sentence and parts of a sentence.
Math- We will have a review of what we have already covered. If time permits we will start on decimals and their relation to fractions.
Science- We will start our look at cell reproduction, mitosis and meiosis will be our subjects.
History- We will look at the Islamic Empire and the growth of the Churches power before we begin our look at the Feudal System.
Practical Reading and Writing- We will talk about the interview process and begin discussing some specific types of jobs.
Government-We will begin with and introduction to the different forms of government.
Week 09-23-13
English- We will start analyzing fiction. We will be looking at contrast, repetition and purpose of fiction. We will also continue our look at inference in writing.
Math-We will begin comparing fractions, mixed numbers, improper fractions, and expressing fractions in lowest terms.
Science-This week we begin cells and energy. We will look at photosynthesis and respiration.
History-We will talk about the fall of the Roman Empire and the Rise of the Byzantine Empire as well as some of the African trading empires. Practical Reading and Writing- We will practice filling out job applications and look at some of the possible expectations of different workplaces.
Week 09-16-13
English-This week we will discuss direct and implied information an author gives his/her reader. We will also be looking at inference, synonyms, and antonyms.
Math- Integers and absolute values will be our focus. At the end of the week we will review what we have covered so far.
Science-We will continue with cells this week. We will talk about osmosis and active transport. If time allows we discuss cells and energy.
History-We will look at early Greek and Roman history and their influences on the world.
Practical Reading and Writing- We will work with the mechanics of correct writing in the work place.
Week 09-09-13
English-This week we will look at the elements of fiction and learning to read between the lines. We will discover what the author tells directly and implied information. We will also continue our context clues with examples and comparison in writing.
Math- Order of operation and distributive property are our topics this week.
Science- We will continue our look at cells. We will compare the differences in plant and animal cells as well as the parts of the cell.
History- We will finish our look at Egypt and begin looking into India’s Caste System.
Practical Reading and Writing- This week we will look at keeping notes during meetings and proper ways to report incidents.
Week of 09-03-13
English- We will be looking at American Fiction. There will be a quiz on Wednesday. We will also be looking at how to understand words from context.
Math- Exponents will be our focus this week. If we have time we will begin scientific notion. Science- Tuesday we will do a quick review. Wednesday will be a quiz. Thursday we will begin our look at cells.
History- There will be a quiz on Tuesday. Wednesday we will begin our look at Egypt.
Practical Reading and Writing-This week we will look at how to read and write instructions in the work place.

Week of 08-26-13
English- This week we will be starting with the where words come from in the English language and why it is different when reading or writing. We will also begin our introduction to American Literature.
Math- We will start with a review of some math skills before we move on into prime factorization, Least Common Multiple, and Greatest Common Factor.
Science- We will have an introduction to the scientific method before we start our introduction to the characteristics of living things.
History- We will begin with the beginnings of civilization and how laws governing civilization came about.
Practical Reading and Writing- This first week we will look at labels understanding their importance.
