NEWS OVERVIEW

On Nov. 13, 2013, Microsoft Corp. will announce the next version of Visual Studio and Visual Studio Online via a globally live-streamed IT decision-maker and developer customer event in New York City and supported by worldwide events rolling out through November and December.

 Visual Studio Online Visual Studio Online is a set of development services and offerings running on Windows Azure that helps development teams create next-generation applications. Part of Microsoft’s Cloud OS, Visual Studio Online provides easy access to Application Lifecycle Management capabilities across teams to support rapid application deployment and fast iteration of applications through learning insights. Visual Studio Online is free for teams of up to five users, and as a benefit of Visual Studio with MSDN subscriptions. It is also available through monthly subscriptions.

Visual Studio Online enables developers to do the following: o Take team collaboration to the cloud, making it dramatically easier for teams to embrace agile application development and delivery. o Enhance the individual development experience by extending tools through additional cloud services and development capabilities. o Bring agility to application delivery — from development to deployment to improvement, often referred to as DevOps. o Enable continuous delivery to Windows Azure in addition to monitoring and learning about their applications.

 Visual Studio Online “Monaco” Microsoft released a preview of Visual Studio Online “Monaco,” the code name for a new service that enables a lightweight coding environment in the browser. Today “Monaco” is available in preview for the Windows Azure Web Sites editing. “Monaco” uses standard- based HTML and JavaScript to build cloud services and is complementary to the existing Visual Studio Integrated Development Environment. It’s an easy way for developers to get started and make quick updates to cloud services on the Windows Azure platform. With this release, developers can make live edits to Windows Azure Web Sites directly from the browser on modern devices.  Visual Studio Online Application Insights In line with Microsoft’s effort to provide customers with tools to enable rapid delivery of applications, Microsoft released a limited preview of Visual Studio Online Application Insights. Application Insights enables teams to support agile application delivery across an organization by providing visibility into an application’s usage. Application Insights collects telemetry data, such as availability, performance and usage data, to provide development teams with a 360-degree view of an application’s health. Deep integration with Microsoft platforms and development tools enables an ambient process for exposing relevant and actionable data to developers about their applications.

Release management capabilities within Visual Studio 2013 will be available under new pricing and licensing, including additional offers for Visual Studio Ultimate 2013 and MSDN subscribers. As part of this announcement, Microsoft is sharing pricing and licensing for the Visual Studio Deployment Standard 2013 and Visual Studio Deployment Datacenter 2013.

In addition, Visual Studio Ultimate 2013 and MSDN customers will receive a grant of one Visual Studio Deployment Standard 2013 with each Visual Studio Ultimate and MSDN subscription, delivering new value for subscribers.
