Practice Committee

PRACTICE COMMITTEE

Members: 5 – 10 members; diverse practice settings, varied work roles and experience levels within the home health practice setting, representing Northern, Central and Southern Districts [2-yr term beginning at Spring Business Meetings in odd years].

Term: 3 years, Committee recommends a Chair in January of each year for appointment by the Section Executive Committee.

Council Board Liaison: Director of PracticeSection Vice President

Meetings: 2-3 Annual meetings by teleconference

Communication: Ongoing

Purpose: Guided by the APTA and Section Core Documents (Code of Ethics, APTA Vision 2020, the Guide to Physical Therapist Practice, the Standards of Practice Criteria, Core Values Document, Bylaws, etc.) the Practice Committee coordinates and implements APTAnj Home Health Section efforts related to physical therapist practice and practice issues affecting the future of the professionphysical therapy practice in the home health setting, at the approval of the COD,Section Executive Committees. Areas of focus include but are not limited to:  The scope of practice (elements of patient/client management, terminology, clinical effectiveness, outcomes assessment);  The regulation of practice (standards of practice, credentialing, voluntary accreditation, licensure requirements, risk management, peer review, performance improvement);  The resources for practice (personnel, recruitment and retention, professional relationships, utilization of personnel, tools for practice in the home health setting);  Practice management (documentation, peer review), and  The market for practice (new roles, emerging markets, changing delivery systems).

Tasks: 1. Establish a plan for dissemination and member education on all elements of APTA Vision 2020, Home Health Section mission and strategic plan . a. Professionalism b. Autonomous Practice c. Practitioner of Choice d. Evidence Based Practice in collaboration with Research Committee e. DPT in collaboration with Education Committee f. Direct Access in collaboration with RAC

2. Collaborate with the Ethics Committee and Education CommitteeSection Executive Committee to establish a plan to link jurisprudence to professionalism 3. Through COD liaison, collaborate with Chief Delegate to assist members with integration of HOD policy into practice 4. Establish a plan for dissemination and member education for promotion of all Practice resources available through APTA and APTAnjthe Home Health Section. 5. Collaborate with Legislative Committee t Government Affairs Committee to review external environmental factors affecting home health physical therapy practice for threats to and opportunities for the Association and the profession and make appropriate recommendations
