SELECTION OF CHORUS STUDENTS : Eton Chorus is a SELECT chorus. The Eton chorus will be more like an honor chorus so that only those truly dedicated will be able to participate. Students will be selected based on the following criteria: teacher recommendation, completion &submission of the enrollment form, & audition. The audition will consist of the student performing for Mrs. B. one of the following songs: “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star,” OR “The ABC Song.” 1st Semester—there will be 50-55 students selected from the 4th, 5th, & 6th graders; students will be chosen from each grade level. 2nd Semester—there will be another opportunity to join chorus; 70-75 student maximum for the 2nd semester. Students should ONLY audition for the chorus if he/she may ATTEND the CHORUS CONCERTS.
Objective: Students will gain experience in reading, singing, and performing music within a select group.
Activities: o Read and understand written music o Sing a variety of styles o Sing in harmony o Move to music o Perform locally and represent our school in district and statewide events o Play instruments
Requirements: Age = 4th, 5th, and 6th grade Eton students only!
Rehearsals Each student must be able to attend one (1) to four (4) rehearsals during the school week. Students in chorus will miss 30 minutes of classroom instruction per rehearsal. They will miss 30 minutes up to four (4) days a week if they play the recorder, an instrument, or we have a mass chorus rehearsal. Mondays 9:50-10:20—4th Grade Rehearsal Tuesdays 9:50-10:20—5th Grade Rehearsal Thursdays 9:50-10:20—6th Grade Rehearsal Fridays 9:50-10:20—4th, 5th, & 6th Grade Mass Rehearsal or Recorder/Instrument Rehearsal
Performances o Students must be able to attend performances (see attached schedule) o Parents (or an adult) must be able to attend the chorus performances o Students will need to dress appropriately Cost o Minimal costs for fieldtrips (amounts will be announced) o $3.00 if you wish to order a recorder (optional) o Spring Chorus Concert Shirt $10-$15—not due until April Attitude and Behavior = Each student is responsible for his/her behavior, and is expected to participate and follow school rules while in chorus. Attitude and behavior unbecoming of a student will result in suspension from the chorus . If a student receives ANY STRIKES during chorus REHEARSALS or PERFORMANCES (talking, horseplay, not participating, etc.) he/she will be EXPELLED from the chorus, and the student will NOT BE able to reenroll in chorus until the FOLLOWING school year. Please note that STRIKES may be given by the chorus director, school administration, or school staff.
Chorus Attendance: o If a student has to miss chorus due to having to make up work with his/her homeroom/classroom teacher this may result in suspension from chorus. The reason being that students in chorus are school ambassadors, and as such they should be examples to all of our Eton Eagles on how a student should perform and behave in the classroom. o Excessive unexcused absences will result in suspension from the chorus. o Regardless of excused or unexcused absences, if a student has missed too many rehearsals the director reserves the right to not allow the student to perform with the chorus. (A student cannot learn the music if he/she is not in rehearsal.)
Choir Rules: S.O.A.R. & Mrs. B’s Music Room Rules apply. Mouth Empty Bottled Water is allowed.
