Meeting Minutes:

September 8, 2005

The President called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m.

The Secretary read the minutes of the June meeting.

President’s Report – The President had nothing to report.

Secretary’s Report – The Secretary had a membership application from Jane Hammett for second reading. After the second reading, Jane was unanimously approved for membership. The Secretary passed around a copy of the letter received from the AKC with their suggested changes to our constitution and by-laws which had been revised and sent to AKC for approval in May. The Board will meeting to discuss AKC’s suggestions. Shauna will contact AKC prior to the Board meeting for clarification of some of their suggestions.

Treasurer’s Report – We had a beginning balance of $6,453.79, income of $70 and expenses of $564.75 (mostly related to our specialty) leaving us with an ending balance of $5,979.08. Our annual dues to ASSA have been. Lynn asked that we discuss making our usual donation to the ASSA foundation and trophy fund in the New Business portion of the meeting.

Old Business:

Calendars: The 2006 sheltie calendars have arrived. A motion was made by Frank to sell the calendars for $6.50 to members, $7.50 to non-members. Chuck seconded the motion. It was passed unanimously.

2005 Specialty: The premium list has been mailed. Lynn asked about getting our ribbons from someone other than Moss Bow. It was decided that since it was so close to our show we would stay with Moss Bow for this year. Frank will get in touch with Kelly regarding the raffle. Frank was going to go to APS to introduce himself and find out who our contact at the show site will be in November. Cathy will contact Phil Triplett to ask if the boy scouts would help with clean up for a donation to the troop. Patty Jackson has volunteered to steward Sweeps as needed. Barbara Thompson volunteered to steward Sweeps on Saturday. Donna Crabtree will steward Breed on Saturday.

2006 Specialty: We have signed contracts from Carol Chapman and Brenda Miramon to be our breed judges. Carol will judge Saturday, November 11; Brenda will judge Sunday, November 12.

New Business:

ASSA donation: Krys made a motion to increase our donation to the Foundation. The motion was seconded by Barbara Nelson. Krys suggested that the donation be made to the General Fund for ASSA to decide its use. Barbara Thompson suggested designating it for the Health Research fund. Barbara’s suggestion was accepted by a vote of 14 for and 1 against. A second vote was taken on giving $50 to the Trophy Fund in addition to the $100 for the Health Research fund. This was accepted by a vote of 13 for, 2 against.

Motion was made by Krys and seconded by Barbara Nelson to make a donation to either AKC CAR or LSU Vet School to help animals stricken by Hurricane Katrina. It was unanimously agreed that we would donate $200 to the AKC CAR.

Kristy reported that our Vetgen clinic has been approved. She will send information about dates to Cathy.

Bob Jordan purchased a Quick Shade shelter (pop-up tent) which he would sell to the club for $50. Lynn made a motion to buy it, Frank seconded the motion, and it was unanimously passed.

Krys and Linda Nicholas are investigating the possibility of the club hosting Myra Sevant’s whelping seminar. It is being hosted by another club in western NC in February.

Breeder referral: Krys brought up that she had recently been asked to list a referral for an individual who was neither a club member nor a member of ASSA. In the past she has only taken referrals for members of these two organizations. It was the feeling of the club members present that she should continue to only accept listings from members of these two organizations.

Club elections: A nominating committee was formed consisting of Chuck Dasnoit, Dianne Hawes and Bob Jordan. A slate will be published in the next newsletter. Nominations from the floor will be accepted at the October meeting. We will need a volunteer to do our newsletter as of January. After 4 years, Cathy has said she will step down as the editor.

Following are the locations of our meetings for the remainder of 2005:

October 13 Dianne Hawes November 3 Lynn Michael

Because of our specialty on the 12th, our November meeting was moved to the first Thursday in November.

Kristy Pedersen will host our Christmas Party on Saturday, December 3.
