Jacobson Elementary Mrs. Larchick’s “Barnyard Behavior” (Our 5th Grade CATS class discipline plan)
Our Classroom “Ranch” Rules: 1. Be Safe 2. Be Respectful 3. Be Responsible
Rewards for following the rules and “moo”ving around the ranch the right way: Individual Rewards -Each child has a goal and potential to “moo”ve around the ranch successfully each day and make good choices”. (Each child has their number on a cow and the cow is sitting in the “cow pasture” each morning.) -Students can earn Character Counts tickets from the Teacher or the “Character Crew”. The character crew consists of 2 students in our class who can pass out Character Counts tickets for students who are following the pillars of Character. We rotate jobs every 3 weeks, so 2 new students will be on the character crew every 3 weeks. On Fridays, we will have a drawing of the Character Counts tickets. If a child’s ticket is drawn, they may pick a treat out of the treasure chest. -Some other individual rewards/incentives include star students, stickers, surprise notes or calls home, “cow cash” ”$$, text messages, homework pass coupons, “Caught ya- Corral” Cards (for getting caught being good), and much more Group Rewards -Each group is working together to earn green and yellow Popsicle sticks (“Bales of Hay”) for their group tray. They earn these sticks by following the ranch rules and staying on task. At the end of each week, the group with the most “hay” will have lunch with Mrs. Larchick on Thursday and receive a treat from the Treasure Chest. They will also get to use the pillows for Independent reading the following week. Class Rewards -We have a point chart on our white board. Each time we receive a class compliment, we will shade in a point or even 2 points if it’s a big compliment. When we reach 10 points, the class will receive 10 minutes of extra recess or free time. At 25 points, we will receive an extra 25 minute recess and homework pass coupon. At 50 points, the class will get popcorn and a movie on a Friday. At 100 points, we will have a class “Ho-down” to celebrate our accomplishments!
Consequences for choosing to break our “Ranch Rules”: -If a student chooses to not follow our rules, the first offense is a warning and they “moo”ve their cow into the “Saddle Up with Good Choices- Warning” on our Barnyard Behavior board. On the second offense, they will “moo”ve their cow into the “I Fell out of my saddle today” and will lose a privilege. On the third offense, they will “moo”ve their cow into the “I need to Lasso my behavior choices” and parent will be contacted. They will then take home a pink “Pig Pen Slip” that will need to be signed and returned the next day. The fourth offense would be a trip to the front office. If a child’s behavior is extreme, the first few steps may be skipped. If a child chooses to not complete an assignment or homework they will automatically “moo”ve one spot that morning. If your child chooses to not complete their homework, they may have to complete it during recess time.
