LATIN AMERICAN WOMEN’s AID (LAWA) JOB DESCRIPTION and PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

Position FINANCE OFFICER (contractor) Responsible to line General Manager manager

Responsible for Provision of financial and accounting services for the charity

Salary £30.00 hour

Hours 28 hours per month

Job purpose Prepare, develop and analyse management accounting information (including drafting budgets for funding applications) for LAWA and provide related support to LAWA’s management team.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 General Book Keeping: Maintaining financial records in accounting package, including monthly bank reconciliations, reconciliation of control accounts and preparing and posting reversing journals for accruals and prepayments quarterly.

 Producing quarterly management accounts and monthly budget overviews, to be presented to LAWA’s Management Committee.

 Rent Accounting: Maintaining rent records using excel spread sheets and preparing and posting quarterly journals to SAGE.

 Reporting: Preparing quarterly reports to Supporting People and other funders.

 Analysing variances and exploring potential financial problems with line manager; making appropriate recommendations and advising of the impact on the organisation.

 Drafting of Year End accounts following Charity Commission procedures.

Accountant 2013 Page 1 of 3  Assisting in the improvement of systems surrounding all aspects of the charity's budgets, forecasts and strategic planning.

 Establishing and maintaining costing models for the charity.

 Planning budgets for projects and exploring possible related problems or opportunities.

 Creating budgets for funding applications and drafting the financial sections of reports to funders.

 Budgeting, planning and forecasting for the charity’s different projects.

GENERAL All staff and contractors at Latin American Women's Aid must:

1) Work at all times with the best interest of LAWA in mind. 2) Ensure that any action or comments made on behalf of or representing LAWA will not cause the organisation's name to be sullied or assist in bringing the organisation's name into disrepute. 3) Ensure that the work undertaken within these projects is in accordance with LAWA's Equal Opportunities Policy. 4) Work within the policies and procedure framework of LAWA.

FLEXIBILITY CLAUSE

In order to deliver services effectively, a degree of flexibility is required and the contractor may be required to perform work not specifically referred to above. Such duties however, will fall within the scope of the job at the appropriate grade. This job description will be subjected to review with the contractor, to ensure that it accurately reflects the duties and range of the post. The aim hereby is to improve the quality of service for Latin American women and all matters relating to their well-being.
