Haude News March 2015

VALENTINE PARTIES The Valentine parties were a huge success because of the help from all of our room parents. The children really enjoyed themselves. A special “thank you” goes to Kristi Callaway and Crystal Wardell, Room Parent Coordinators, for organizing this fun event!

SPELLING BEE Congratulations to Cecilia N., 5th grade student, who represented Haude in Klein’s district Spelling bee on February 10. We are very proud of her accomplishment!

3rd GRADE STAAR Q & A

Are you a 3rd grade parent with questions about the STAAR test? Come to our STAAR Q&A session on March 26 at 6:30 to get answers to questions such as:

1. What kind of information is tested? 2. What does the school do with the scores? 3. How can I help my child prepare for the test?

We will meet in the library for a very informal session. Bring your questions and we will provide answers.

KLEINWELL The KISD 4th Annual Kleinwell Family Fitness Fair is scheduled for Saturday, May 2nd, 8 a.m. – noon, at the Klein Memorial Stadium - 16715 Stuebner Airline Rd. The health fair, featuring community health vendors, games, and fun activities, is free. There will also be a one mile run/walk which includes a t-shirt and award. More information and race registration is available at www.kleinisd.net/familyfitness or contact Winni Attaway at 832-249-4162.

On March 6th, we will be celebrating WOW Word Day. The point of WOW Word Day is to increase our students’ vocabulary AND to have a little fun. Staff and students are invited to dress up as a vocabulary word and wear the name tag with the definition so that others can learn the meaning of the word. For WOW Word Day, costumes should not cost a lot of money or take a lot of time to prepare. They should be fun, creative, and inexpensive. Look for items around your house to create your costume.

DRESS CODE - SHORTS As the weather warms, please review the dress code guidelines for wearing shorts in the KISD Student Handbook. Shorts are acceptable if they are mid-thigh or longer. Please review this guideline with your child.

ABSENCE POLICY REMINDER It is not uncommon for questions to be asked regarding the district policy of requiring a note from a doctor after an absence. The only unexcused absence we record is from truancy. All other absences are excused IF a note from the parents is provided.

The following statement is from the KISD student handbook: It is not necessary for a student to have a note from a doctor each time he/she is ill. However if the number of absences exceeds 18 days in the school year, and if medical reasons are given for an additional absence, a doctor’s note would be required for additional days to receive credit. If you have any questions, please call Karen Ross at 832-484-5593.

LOST AND FOUND Please be sure to check our lost and found located in the breezeway. With the changing weather, we have many items that need to be taken home. Unfortunately, most jackets do not have student names on the jacket tags.

Thank you parents and teachers who shop with their REDcard at Target! We just received a donation check from Target’s Take Charge of Education Program for $131.16. Target donates 1% of purchases to our school every time you shop with your REDcard and have Haude Elementary designated as your school. To participate, go to www.target.com/tcoe, and enter our school name or ID # 99208 to view and designate Haude. It all adds up! Since the inception of this program, Haude has received a total of $5,991.76! Just another reason it is so fun to shop at Target!

INFORMATION RELEASE The district is required by law to release to anyone who makes a formal request through the Public Information Office, students' names, address, telephone number, date and place of birth, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, weight and height of members of athletic teams, dates of attendance, awards received in school, and most recent and previous school attended. The district frequently receives such requests from salespersons and others, and we must comply unless the parents have objected in writing with the release of this information.
