CCHS Sophomore Honored for Serving Others

CCHS sophomore honored for serving others

CAMPBELL COUNTY SCHOOLS - When it comes to helping others, Campbell County High School sophomore Nicole Robertson dives right in. And the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati has taken notice.

Robertson is one of 40 teens selected by the YMCA to receive a Character award. The awards, which will be presented on April 17, are presented to teens whose service to the community displays the YMCA’s four key values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

For the last three years, Robertson has spent nearly every Saturday morning in the Northern Kentucky University pool serving as a junior coach for the Northern Kentucky Dolphins, a Special Olympics swim team. A member of the CCHS swim and dive team, Robertson uses her skills to help swimmers with disabilities improve their technique.

Robertson spends her Sunday mornings volunteering at her church, St. Mary in Alexandria, working with preschool-aged children on crafts and activities. She volunteers several times each month at St. Elizabeth Fort Thomas in the emergency room where she gathers supplies for nurses and doctors. When she doesn’t think she can help enough alone, she reaches out to others.

She has organized a book drive and a volunteer club so others can give help as well. At only 15, she is making a difference in the lives of others.

“Our YMCA Character Award recipients are each making their own very powerful difference in their own personal way. They are shining examples of what the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati is all about,” said Rebecca Kelley, YMCA group vice president.

Campbell County School District provides the highest quality public education and extracurricular activities for nearly 5,000 students in preschool through grade 12. The district has earned the prestigious AdvancEd International accreditation and is among the top ranking districts in Kentucky on state and national assessments.
