BUS MAINTENANCE PROGRAM

BREAKDOWNS Whenever a bus has incurred more than four (4) breakdowns per year or failed to run for ten (10) cumulative days, a meeting with the Transportation Assistant shall be held to review the bus breakdowns with that driver. Documentation should substantiate a mechanic capable of repair did the work. The principal of each school shall develop an alternative method of delivery of students whenever a driver is not able to do his or her route for that day. The principal will meet with the drivers at his or her school and determine a way to assign students to other existing routes at his or her school. The contract bus driver taking the students will be able to claim reimbursement if he or she wishes to be compensated for the extra expense. The plan will be submitted to the Transportation Assistant for approval by October 1 of each new school year. SPARE BUS USAGE Spare buses are usually available for rental purposes whenever a bus is broken or out of service. The cost of the spare bus shall be on a sliding scale. These days are cumulative per school year. The Transportation Assistant must be contacted by the private contractor for approval to operate a spare bus past five (5) consecutive days. Rental for the use of spare buses shall be as follows:

Failure to rent or supply a replacement bus for service on the route shall constitute neglect of duty. The contract driver shall notify the Transportation Assistant when he/she has used the spare bus fifteen (15) days. The School Board shall arrange to have spare buses available at designated locations. Said spare buses shall:

(1) be placed at designated locations in the northern, central, and southern parts of the parish;

(2) be swept, cleaned and re-fueled prior to returning to a designated location;

(3) be available for use only by operators whose own buses are being repaired or at the discretion of the Superintendent;

(4) be obtained only after a driver has contacted B&L Transportation notifying them that a spare bus is required and a spare bus will then be designated to that operator;

(5) be returned to the same location obtained and B&L Transportation shall be contacted immediately identifying that the spare bus has been returned, re- fueled, and swept clean. Also, any mechanical problem or other concern shall be identified with B&L Transportation. Expenses incurred by the private contractor in the operation of the spare bus shall be the responsibility of the private contractor as per the above mentioned sliding scale. Rental fees applicable shall be paid from payroll check.
