Level 1

 What happened to James’s parents?  What were James’s aunts’ names?  Who gave the magical “little green things” to James?  Name the insects James found inside the peach.  Where did their journey end?

Level 2

 Describe James’s journey into the peach.  Describe the creatures James discovered inside the peach.  Tell about the experiences James and his insect friends experienced while traveling to America.  How did James get the peach up into the air? Explain

Level 3

1. What types of insects might you find inside a real peach? 2. What will you think about the next time you eat a peach? 3. What was your most vivid image in the story? 4. Have you ever looked inside a peach pit? What does it look like?

Level 4

 Who was your favorite creature in the story? Tell why  Which event in the story was the most thrilling?  Which creature would make the best pet? Why?  Which creature would you most likely find inside a piece of fruit?

Level 5

 How would the story be different if it were a banana?  Think of two additional creatures that could have lived inside the peach.  Suppose James’s aunts were waiting in New York. What might have happened?  Suppose you had some magical “little green things,” what would you do with them?

Level 6

 Decide whether you would like to have been James in this story. Explain  Predict what the aunts will do when they find out where James is.  Why does this story evoke vivid images (pictures) in your mind?  Tell how you might create a story like this one, only using another piece of fruit. Explain.
