Engineering Rigger Dayworking position based at Trinity South Engineering Workshops

A vacancy has arisen within our Engineering Rigging Services Team, in our Engineering Department, for an experienced Engineering Rigger to work Daywork (Monday – Friday), incorporating a 24/7 on call requirement, to provide Mechanical Rigging Maintenance and Repairs support within the Operational Engineering Department. The successful candidate will have the ability to undertake Engineering Rigging activities and associated working.

Suitable applicants should meet the following requirements:  Have experience on a wide range of rigging repairs, installations and lifting equipment;  Hold a full DVLA Driving Licence;  Be prepared to undertake training to achieve Engineering Plant Licences;  Be prepared to undertake specific in-house training and experience of crane rigging services.

In addition, desirable criteria includes:  Either a City and Guilds I,II and III in Mechanical Engineering or Rigging Services and/or an ONC in Mechanical Engineering;  A Certificate of successful attendance on Rope Examination for Rigging Services Equipment and Maintenance;  Have in-depth knowledge of rigging materials, installations and replacement to on quayside cranes, rubber tyred gantry cranes and miscellaneous plant and equipment;  Have in-depth experience and knowledge of container handling cranes, general and specific rigging systems;  Experience in workshop equipment, including overhead cranes and rigging equipment.

In addition to the above criteria, the quality of application forms submitted will be taken into consideration for shortlisting. The selection process will involve a competency-based interview, along with psychometric testing.

The position covers a dayworking 8-hour pattern covering 5 days a week, averaging 40 hours per week. The salary for this role is £32,996 per annum and also offers membership of a contributory Occupational Pension Scheme, Single Private Healthcare cover and a generous holiday allowance. Planned Maintenance – Engineering Rigger

Job Summary Responsible To Engineering Planning Department

Job Purpose  As required, to undertake maintenance, repairs and installation to upgrade, maintain and commission rigging installations on all the Ports infrastructure. Quay cranes, rubber tyred gantry cranes, rail mounted gantry cranes, personnel lifts, mobile elevating work platforms and associated workshop equipment on the Ports plant and equipment, provide expert knowledge of all rigging services.  To diagnose, rectify and repair faults on the Cranes Rigging Systems as well as utility equipment including the Ports container handling equipment at all (3) HPUK sites. Description of Duties Primary Functional  Ensure all maintenance and installation work is carried out effectively and Objectives of the Role safely.  Ensure that rigging installations on the Ports plant and equipment are cost effectively repaired and maintained in a safe manner with minimal operational disruption.  Maintain the quay crane rigging lift assemblies, including routine inspection and testing, periodic adjustment and spreader frame alignment.  Maintain the mobile elevating work platforms and other associated personnel carrying apparatus to conduct rigging services.  Maintain workshop infrastructure of overhead cranes, vehicle hoists and other ancillary equipment in support of providing rigging services.  Ensure compliance to all policies, procedures, standard operating practices, with recommendations for action and continuous improvement. Finance  Responsible for ensuring that the most cost effective route is taken in undertaking modification and repairs, with the minimum parts replaced and the modification or repair completed efficiently on all planned and unplanned activities. Decision Making  Constantly prioritising workload and scheduling  Ensuring all maintenance activities enhance equipment performance / reliability and that no actions compromise this, for this purpose analyse equipment performance and technical information  The ability to diagnose complex faults from sometimes limited data and history. Mental Demands  Ability to cope with changing work priorities which may be pressurised and demanding.  Frequent periods of intense concentration on complex technical problems.
