BURNIE BELL, PRINCIPAL OF CREEK 12 BRIDGE HIGH SCHOOL IN MARION, SOUTH CAROLINA, 13 UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AND TO 14 EXTEND BEST WISHES FOR MUCH SUCCESS AND 15 HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS. 16 17 Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina Senate 18 honors those individuals who give tirelessly of themselves to the 19 welfare of this great State’s most precious resource, its children; 20 and 21 22 Whereas, longtime Creek Bridge High School Principal, Mr. 23 Burnie Bell, will retire at the end of the 200910 school year; and 24 25 Whereas, Principal Bell has served in the field of education for the 26 past fortyone years as a teacher, coach, and principal in the 27 Britton’s Neck and Rains area; and 28 29 Whereas, Mr. Bell, a native of Rains, began his career in education 30 in 1970 when he became a physical education teacher at Britton’s 31 Neck High School. He went on to teach science, social studies, 32 and coached boys’ basketball and baseball for many years; and 33 34 Whereas, Mr. Bell accepted the position as principal at Britton’s 35 Neck High School in 1984, and his career as a principal has 36 continued at Creek Bridge High School for the past seven years. 37 He has been recognized during his career with numerous honors, 38 including Coach of the Year in 1980 and winning the S.C. 39 Department of Education’s Principal’s Incentive Program Award 40 for seven consecutive years; and 41

[1410] 2 1 Whereas, during his years as principal, Mr. Bell has overseen the 2 consolidation of Terrell’s Bay and Britton’s Neck High School in 3 2002 and the construction of the new Creek Bridge High School 4 campus in 2003. The new campus houses stateoftheart computer 5 labs and media center and now serves students in grades 612; and 6 7 Whereas, additionally, under his leadership, the school has 8 recently received several honors and distinctions, including the 9 Palmetto Gold Award and U.S. News & World Report’s Bronze 10 Award as one of America’s best high schools; and 11 12 Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the Senate to 13 pause in their deliberations to recognize the many good works of 14 this fine South Carolinian. Now, therefore, 15 16 Be it resolved by the Senate: 17 18 That the members of the Senate honor Mr. Burnie Bell, Principal 19 of Creek Bridge High School in Marion, South Carolina, upon the 20 occasion of his retirement on May 28, 2010, and to extend best 21 wishes for much success and happiness in all his future endeavors. 22 23 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 24 Mr. Burnie Bell. 25 XX 26
