Instructions: Find places where Common Core State Standards in both math and English language arts are visible. Remember this includes both content and practices. Common Core State Standards for Mathematics Common Core State Standards for ELA Responding to Individual Needs Instructions: Your facilitator will assign your group to one of the four scenarios. Consider the instructional situations presented in your assigned scenario. Refer to your Interactive Science resources to support the student described. If you finish early, choose another scenario to address.

Scenario Response

Junae loves science but struggles with reading. Her mother asks if there are any additional science activities that Junae can do at home.

Briley is a hard worker but struggles with the math concepts necessary for making sense of scientific data.

Sophie is an English language learner who struggles with written English. She often leaves free-response boxes blank and reads slowly with low comprehension.

Elway often seems bored and restless in science class. He finishes his work early and tries to distract other students as they finish. Lesson Planning Activity Instructions: Select a lesson that teaches your favorite science concepts. (Alternatively, choose one that you will be teaching soon.) Using the information that you learned today, determine which resources you will utilize and how you will incorporate them into instruction.

Planning a Lesson Your Ideas List the components that come from the print, digital, and inquiry pathways Try to choose at least one from each pathway to familiarize yourself with the different options.

List the program planning tools you will consult as you prepare for the lesson.

Identify the specific standards (Next Generation Science Standards or Common Core State Standards) that are addressed within the lesson that you selected.

What resources (those that are specific to the program as well as any others) would you need to prepare prior to delivering this lesson? Note whether each resource is part of the Pearson Interactive Science © 2016 program.
