February 2014
Dear Summit Families,
February means Kindergarten Round Up time! It is hard to believe that we are already planning for our students who will be the graduating class of 2027. If you have a student that will enter kindergarten in August or you know of neighbors who have students that will join us next year, please pass along the registration information. Our kindergarten registration is scheduled for February 18-21. The district admissions office is located at:
District Admissions 5416 S. Rivera Way (Next to Thunder Ridge Middle School) Centennial
The Admissions office is open Monday-Friday from 7:30am-4:30 pm. For a child to enroll in Kindergarten for the 2014-2015 school year, he or she must be five years old by October 1. Further details regarding registration are in this issue.
Students in grades 2-5 are currently completing the winter MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) tests in reading, writing and math (and science for 5th). The test data is used by the teachers to help them plan whole group, small group and individual instruction in each academic area. The results of the tests will be available for you during conferences. Our TCAP (Transitional Colorado Assessment Program) testing will begin this month for our 3rd graders. 3rd grade will be taking the reading CSAP test on Thursday, February 20 and Friday, February 21. As with all testing situations, the best preparation at home is a good night’s rest and a healthy breakfast.
Conferences will be held the week of March 3. The conference times are a wonderful opportunity to learn more about your child’s academic progress as well as make the personal connection with your child’s teacher.
I will look forward to seeing you at school.
Mary Lams Principal

News from the Nurses Jen Ellerbroek and Natalie Walker 720-886-6409
The cold weather is upon us! Please help your student to dress appropriately for the frequent weather changes Colorado offers. Dressing in layers is best to plan for changes throughout the day.
With weather changes comes headaches, help keep your child hydrated by sending them to school with a water bottle they can fill up throughout the day to aide in the prevention of headaches. Also, getting proper amount of sleep and rest helps keep your student healthy and ready to learn each school day and decreases their tummy aches. PLEASE be sure to keep your emergency contact information up to date. Often times we change cell phone numbers and/or carriers or decide to no longer have a home phone number and we forget to update these changes in Parent Portal. This is the only way we have of reaching you should your child become ill at school, or should there be an emergency, so please remember to go into Parent Portal and update all information any time there is a change. This includes health changes or medication permission changes as well.
