Final Exam Schedule for May 21 st , 22 nd & 23 rd 2017

Spring Term, 2017

Dear MHS Parents and Students,

Attached is the final exam schedule that will be followed for 2nd semester final exams. The schedule carries with it a number of responsibilities and freedoms that will require your attention.

1. Students who are exempt from all exams do not need to attend school on final exam days, May 22nd and May 23rd, 2017. Students who are exempt from SOME, but not ALL exams need only to attend the periods their required exam is scheduled. Students who are not exempt from any exams must attend all classes during all the scheduled times (see back).

2. Any truancy on May 21st, 22nd or 23rd or during final exams will result in disciplinary action that may preclude the student from following the attached final exam schedule on the back of this letter.

3. Make-up exams for students who have an excused absence on May 22nd or 23rd will be Friday, May 26th. Students who know they will be gone during final exams must obtain a “Planned Absence” slip from the office with administrative approval. Final exams will NOT be administered early.

4. Restroom passes during final exams will be granted on an emergency basis only. The school will be in “test mode” and interruptions to the educational environment will be kept to a minimum.

5. Following exams, students waiting for athletic practice or buses are to report to the cafeteria. Additionally, high school students are not to enter any other school buildings in the district during these final exam days.

6. Students who are more than five minutes tardy to class will be escorted to AER and will be administered the final exam in the time remaining in the test period. No additional time will be allowed to finish the exam.

7. Buses will run at their normal time at 3:35.

8. Students who are on the border of two grades in a class are strongly encouraged to take the final exam even if the student is exempt from the final exam. Students are not academically penalized for trying to earn the higher grade for the semester. (Semester grades are the grades which determine GPA and class rank which we compute using percentages).

Students, you have continued to demonstrate your ability to take on the responsibility to make this final exam schedule successful. Your continued assistance is appreciated.

Let’s finish this year strong!

Mr. Stuart Principal, MHS Students who have missed 3 or fewer days in the semester and have maintained at least a C both quarters in the class are exempt from the final exam in that class provided the student has not had a truancy, out- of-school suspension, or in-school-suspension. A list of students who qualify for the attendance component of the final exam exemption policy will be generated from the office. Teachers will need to inform students if they have earned the C or better each quarter in each of their classes. Parents and students can also access this information on Skyward by going to www.mattoon.k12.il.us and clicking on “Quick Links” and then “Skyward” on the right side of the page. Parents and students must have a login and password. If parents need that information, they can contact MHS at 238-7800 to get it.
