SOLO :

Dancers may enter a maximum of 4 solo dances. This includes the 2 dances in the Premierships but does not include the Light/Heavy shoe reel step about.

Dancers may enter one Premiership or two if the second is paid in full (no entry fee cap applies). Ages will be divided upon receipt of entries.

NOVICE grade is for dancers competing for the first time. Novice dancers may also dance in Beginner grades. Novice Premiership is only for dancers who haven’t competed before in both of the dances, but not including on the day in novice single sections.

Dance to the Music solo is for children who might require their teacher on stage with them, who may not be able to do steps to music yet or children who would like to have a good try at their beginners reel and don’t know any other dances yet. 48 bars.

Dance to the music Ceili is for children who would like to attempt dancing with their friend, holding hands while doing basic skips and sevens. 32 bars.

There is two Adult Solo sections. Adult 1 and Adult 2. ‘Adult 1’ is for dancers at a beginner or primary level. It is aimed for adults who began dancing and competing as an adult. ‘Adult 2’ is for dancers at an Intermediate or Open level. It is aimed for adults that may have danced when younger, had a break and have now returned to it. If any adult has placed in a state championship, they should compete in the reserve or open age sections.

Reserve is restricted to dancers who have not placed in the top 50% at any State Championships (does not apply to 6 and under sections) and / or recalled at Nationals 2016. NOTE: Gradings do not apply to the Reserve Premiership or Reserve single sections.

ADULT 2 : Intermediate Reel / Intermediate Slip Jig / Intermediate Heavy Jig / Intermediate Hornpipe / Intermediate Traditional Set Dance

DANCE TO THE MUSIC: Solo Reel (as many steps as possible, with or without teacher) Ceili Reel (32bars in pairs)

NOVICE PREMIERSHIP: Reel and Light Jig OR Single Jig

BEGINNERS PREMIERSHIP: Choice of 2 of the following: Reel, Light Jig, Single Jig, Treble Jig

PRIMARY PREMIERSHIP : Choice of 2 of the following: Reel, Slip Jig, Treble Jig, Traditional Set Dance, Light Jig or Single Jig

RESERVE PREMIERSHIP : Reel or Slip Jig and Heavy Jig or Hornpipe

OPEN PREMIERSHIP : Reel or Slip Jig and Own choice set dance

BOYS TROPHY DANCE : Reel (any speed). Boys may also enter a Premiership in their age group and level, subject to maximum 4 solo dances. ADULTS 1 PREMIERSHIP : Beginner / Primary Reel or Slip Jig, Light Jig or Single Jig

ADULTS 2 PREMIERSHIP : Intermediate Reel or Slip Jig and Traditional Set Dance

STEP ABOUT REEL : Any Level Reel step(s) for 16 bars at speed 113, Soft or Hard Shoe (does not count towards 4 solo dances)

SYLLABUS

CEILI / FIGURE :

4 HAND : 4 Hand Reel or Humours of Bandon from Commission Book. Dancers may perform either dance and either figure. Under 8 (if numbers permit) Under 10 Under 12 Under 15 (if numbers permit) Open Adult

6-8 HAND : From Commission Book - choice of any dance and choice of figure Under 10 / Under 12 / Open / Adult

4 - 16 HAND OWN CHOREOGRAPHY : Under 12, Open age, Adult (Please note that this section is a ceili/figure dance section only. Dances should have predominantly ceili footwork with solo dance steps kept to a minimum). The dance should be no longer than 4 minutes not including walk on and intro.

2 HAND : EITHER Beginner (max 48 bars) OR Open (max 72 bars)

Under 8 Under 10 Under 12 Under 15 (open only) Open Adult

3 HAND : Maximum 96 bars

Under 10 Under 12 Open Adult

4 HAND CHOREOGRAPHY JIG : Maximum 96 bars - Open

CREATIVE EVENT:

This section is open to all age dancers. It can be any style of dance, any style of music with or without lyrics, choice of costume, minimum of 3 dancers and maximum of 16 dancers. The dance should be no longer than 3 minutes. Be creative! COMPETITION RULES

1. Competitors must be pupils of teachers registered with An Coimisiun le Rinci Gaelacha, Dublin and be registered to compete with an appropriate regional authority for 2017. 2. Entries must be submitted on the official form accompanied by the correct fee and signed by the registered teacher. 3. No refunds will be given. 4. A minimum of 3 entries must be received for a section to be run, excluding Novice sections, and at the organisers discretion. The organiser reserves the right to cancel, modify or combine age groups for any competition should the need arise. 5. Solo competitors may dance in one of the following: Novice, Beginner, Primary, Reserve or Open Premiership. Dancers must be graded at the Intermediate/Mean level or lower for the required dances to compete in the Reserve Premiership. 6. All dancers must report to the marshalling area when called, or risk disqualification. 7. Competitors must be ready to dance on stage half an hour before the appointed times, unless under extreme circumstances, such circumstances will be considered by the organising committee. The decision of the organising committee will be final. 8. Competitors will be required to dance to the music provided by the AIDA VIC/TAS at AIDA Speeds. Teachers will be required to supply music for choreography sections, unless previously arranged with the organiser. 9. A dancer will be permitted to re-dance under the following conditions: a) any problem with the music b) loss of a heel or complete shoe provided they stand back and allow the other dancer to continue dancing. c) at the adjudicator’s discretion. 10. The Adjudicator’s decision is final. 11. Competitors enter the competition at their own risk regarding injury. 12. To receive prizes and awards competitors must be in full dancing costume including shoes. 13. Any Form of unauthorised photography which has the capability to capture a dancer’s image whilst in motion, using electronic or manual means, e.g. mobile phone, standard camera, video camcorder, cine recorder, commercial film, with or without flash enhancement, is expressly forbidden for all Primary, Intermediate/Reserve and Open sections. For Novice and Beginner sections, non flash photography is allowed from a specific area in the hall explained on the day by the organisers. Anyone seen not complying may be asked to leave the venue. 14. Costumes must comply with the current guidelines adopted by AIDA Inc. Appropriate underwear, covering the midriff, must be worn. Where tights are worn, they must be of a denier of not less than 70. Competitors in all age groups Novice and Beginner, may only wear traditional class-costumes. 15. Makeup* will not be permitted for any dancer in the first two grades (beginner and primary) up to and including the Under 12 age group or any intermediate and open dancer in Under 10. * Fake tan is allowed for intermediate and open under 10 age groups. 16. No block, en point, stationary or moving, will be allowed to be performed for all ages, up to and including 11 years and under age groups. 17. The use of artificial arm aids is not permitted 18. All other AIDA competition rules will be complied with. 19. Lodgement of an entry form shall be taken to signify that the Teacher, Pupil and Parents concerned accept and agree to strictly abide by all of the above rules.
