1 [1334-1] 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 10 11 TO REQUEST THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION 12 NAME THE NEW BRIDGE ON HAMMETT BRIDGE ROAD 13 IN GREENVILLE COUNTY AS THE “HAROLD HAMMETT 14 MEMORIAL BRIDGE” AND ERECT APPROPRIATE SIGNS 15 OR MARKERS ALONG BOTH HIGHWAY APPROACHES TO 16 THIS BRIDGE THAT CONTAIN THE WORDS “HAROLD 17 HAMMETT MEMORIAL BRIDGE”. 18 19 Whereas, the late Harold Hammett was a much loved and widely 20 respected Greenville County farmer, historian, church, and civic 21 leader who did much to enrich his community; and 22 23 Whereas, Mr. Hammett was a veteran of World War II, a graduate 24 of North Greenville Baptist Academy and Furman University, a 25 trustee of North Greenville College, and a lifelong member of 26 Brushy Creek Baptist Church; and 27 28 Whereas, his family has owned the Hammett Farm which is 29 adjacent to this new bridge since 1791, and his daughters still own 30 and operate this farm today; and 31 32 Whereas, he is a descendant of the Hammett family who built the 33 first bridge at approximately this location sometime after 1791, 34 and the members of the General Assembly believe it would be a 35 fitting tribute to this distinguished South Carolinian if this bridge 36 were named in his honor. Now, therefore, 37 38 Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives 39 concurring: 40 41 That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, 42 request the Department of Transportation name the new bridge on

1 [1334] 1 1 Hammett Bridge Road in Greenville County as the “Harold 2 Hammett Memorial Bridge” and erect appropriate signs or markers 3 along both highway approaches to this bridge that contain the 4 words “Harold Hammett Memorial Bridge”. 5 6 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 7 the Department of Transportation. 8 ----XX---- 9
