Youth Section WELCOME PACK 2016/17 season To all players and parents,

A warm welcome to St Austell Rugby Club ('The Saints'), and home also to the St Austell RFC Youth teams. We are one of the biggest Youth sections in Cornwall and pride ourselves on the warm and friendly atmosphere you'll find here.

Our Youth section comprises every age group from Under 7’s right the way through to Under 16’s, and Colts (U17 & U18). We have an enthusiastic cadre of Team Managers and qualified Coaches for each age group, and we aim to make rugby enjoyable and inclusive for all players. We are happy to coach children of all abilities, with the emphasis on improvement, inclusion and most important of all, enjoyment.

If your child hasn't played rugby before, don't worry – it’s our job and pleasure to teach them – no matter what age they are. Equally, if you haven't encountered rugby before, please feel free to ask your child's coaches about any aspect of the game. We are all here to help.

The season runs from September 1st through until May 1st, and is a mixture of training sessions and matches, both home and away, against other teams from around the County. This takes place on Sundays (with the occasional exception for older groups), with further training on weekday evenings (mostly Wednesdays) for the older age groups.

Whilst the St Austell management and coaching team are busy delivering skills and encouragement to your child, we hope that you will be able to support us throughout the season. Parents are encouraged to help where they can as this maintains the family atmosphere within the Club. We actively encourage parents to get involved with assisting the coaches and supporting the section. This doesn't have to mean coaching. Parents could get involved in areas such as first aid, team organisation or fitness conditioning for example. Please approach your friendly Team Managers or Coaches to talk about how you might be able to get involved.

This pack is here to help you through the season. You'll find contact details for coaches, fixture lists for the Youth season, a kit list for match days, and application forms for RFU and club membership. It also includes copies of our Codes of Conduct for both players and parents, along with medical and media consent forms.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact any of the coaching staff or committee. But most importantly, enjoy your time with us.

Welcome to a new season of Youth Rugby at St Austell RFC, where we are rightly proud of the achievements and the excellent attitude of our young players. The club aims to ensure that players, coaches, parents, spectators and volunteers uphold the Core Values of Rugby Union, Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship.

We are also proud of our RFU Seal of Approval status, which recognises our achievement in reaching and maintaining the standard of a club committed to providing quality rugby union experiences for young players. We are delighted by the number of players who progress up the age levels and into our senior teams. With that in mind I would encourage you all to watch and support the senior side in what looks to be an exciting season.

The credit for our success as a club is due to the commitment of our young players, the endeavours of the club’s qualified and enthusiastic Team Managers, coaches, volunteers, our players’ parents, supporters and our sponsors. We are always keen to welcome any help whether it be coaching, managing, refereeing, fund raising or assisting in the kitchen. There are also some vacant positions on the committee that urgently need filling. If you might be able to help or suggest possible sponsors please contact one of the coaches, managers or anyone on the Youth Committee.

To ensure that the club lives up to its high standards and that your children are properly registered and cared for in the coming season. I would also ask that subscriptions are paid by 30th September 2016, so that we can handle the finances to everyone’s benefit. The relevant registration and membership forms can be found on the Club Website. Please print them off and complete all relevant sections and then pass them to the relevant team manager. Please ensure you request a receipt and keep it safely until such time you receive your Club Membership Card from your respective Team Manager. If you do not have accesses to a computer then speak with yourTeam Manager who will provide them for you.

The Club Website is fully established and can be found at www.pitchero.com/clubs/staustell I would encourage you and your family to have a look, as this will be one of the main means of communication and hold all relevant information including membership forms’ forthcoming events, Who’s Who, Match Reports and Photographs. Any other material you wish to be added or feedback then Email the web master Paul Hayes, via the Website.

Above all, enjoy your rugby.

Parents Code of Conduct

 Act as positive role models to all players.  Remember that young people play rugby for their own enjoyment and not that of their parents.  Encourage young people to play – do not force them.  Please be aware of our coaches code of conduct  Share concerns with the club officials and coaches  Support coaches to instil virtues of fun, enjoyment, and encouragement.  Be familiar with our coaching programme so that we can ensure your child is fully involved.  Be familiar with our teaching and coaching methods by observing our sessions.  Be aware of our duty of care to ensure player safety and where appropriate assist coaches with the supervision of players.  Focus of the players’ efforts, rather than winning or losing.  Be realistic about the players’ abilities: do not push them towards a level that they are not capable of achieving.  Provide positive verbal feedback both in training and during the game.  Remember that persistent, negative messages will adversely affect the players’ and referees’ performance and attitude.  Always support the Club in their efforts to eradicate loud, coarse and abusive behaviour from the game.  Remember young people learn much by example.  Always show appreciation of good play by all players both from our Club and the opposition.  Respect decisions made by the match officials, even if they appear to make a mistake, and encourage the players to do likewise. Sponsorship and Website Details Sponsorship and fund raising is an important part in ensuring our Club and individual teams continue to develop and improve both in terms of performance and standards.

The Club relies on its coaches to help drive sponsorship for their teams. Most of the sponsorship comes through the contacts you develop by running your team.

Please make sure that if you are talking to a potential sponsor, that you talk your plans through with the Youth chairman or secretary.

This is for a number of reasons:  Maximizing the revenue for the sponsorship deal  Ensuring all parties are benefiting in the best way according to their needs and objectives.  Making sure companies are aware of all options available.  Ensuring Club standards and brand through continuity

You will be involved and your input essential in making sure the final outcome is suitable for your age group and the Youth committee. Therefore please make sure you pass on the relevant details as early as possible.
