PACE GENERAL BOARD MEETING September 18, 2012 2:00 p.m. – SC 213a
PACE Board Present: Alexis Palmer, Brett McKeachnie, Joel Herd, Dru Huffaker, Mike Francis, Karen Cushing, Beth Winkler, Ked Black, Pam Petro, Tami Jensen, Linda Moore, Shalece Nuttall, Vickie Walker, Leialoha Pakalani, Ellen Draper, Elizabeth Nield, Stephanie Albach, Matt Reichman, Lesli Baker, Kirk Ashworth, Kim Baraclough, Rachael Solomon, Kathy Johnson

1. Welcome and Call to Order. Alexis Palmer, PACE President, welcomed all board members and visitors.
2. Faculty Senate Update. David Connelly addressed the Board and expressed a desire to coordinate the voice of Faculty Senate with others on campus.
3. Policy Discussion. The Board discussed Policy #302, Hiring of Staff and Student Employees. The Board approved the policy and recommended to move it forward. We also discussed Policy #165, Discrimination, Harassment and Affirmative Action. The Board recommended adding a purpose statement to include the University extending its protection of protected classes beyond Federal and State levels.
4. PACE Pavers. A committee has been formed to study and make recommendations for the PACE pavers. Additional information will be forthcoming.
5. PBA Discussion. Alexis will send an email summarizing our requests for the upcoming year.
6. PELC Activity. The Board participated in an activity that simulated a similar activity in PELC. The Board separated into groups and answered the following questions:
. What have you been stewing on? What keeps you up at night concerning your area or the university as a whole?
. What crazy ideas do you have that might improve the operation of the university and the experience for the students/staff?
Alexis will be presenting the results of the discussion in President’s Council on Thursday.
7. Senators. The Career Development Center is available to all staff.
1 | P a g e 8. Committee Chairs. Wolverine Sightings continues to move forward. We encourage Board members to get the word out to their divisions. The PACE Christmas Social will be held on December 18 from 11:00-1:00 p.m. in the Grande Ballroom. Revisions to the procedures manual are underway. Staff Education Fund – 37 applicants were approved before June 1. There were 30 additional applicants who applied after the due date. A group of 24 were approved for the remaining funds. Staff Development Fund – 5 departments have applied so far for 2012-2013. New procedures/applications are being created to clarify the process.
Our next meeting will be held on November 20 from 2:00-3:30 p.m. in SC 213a.
