Loddon Mallee Services Fact Sheet

Department of Justice Loddon Mallee Region

Justice Services Available Are you having a dispute with your neighbour and need some support? Do you need advice on renting rights and responsibilities or product safety? Do you wish to pay a fine or obtain a birth, death or marriage certificate?

If so then the Department of Justice can help with:

 Births, death and marriage enquiries – Your application for a birth, death or marriage certificate can be lodged at a Justice Service Centre or Regional Office.

 Community correctional services – Offenders in local communities are supported by Community Corrections Officers to ensure they meet the conditions of their court or parole orders, including connecting them with community work options.

 Consumer help – Consumers and businesses can get advice from Consumer Affairs about a range of topics, including building and renovating, business licensing and regulation, buying and selling property, product safety, renting, shopping and trading.

 Resolving disputes – People can settle their differences informally, fairly and for free through the Dispute Settlement Centre of Victoria, providing a less costly and faster option than going to court.

 Victims support services – If you have been a victim of crime, there are services across Victoria providing practical support through information and advice, or connections with other services that can help.  Working with Children Checks – If your paid or volunteer work is child-related, you can get a Working with Children Check card through the department.

 Sorting out fines and warrants – If you have outstanding fines, Sheriff’s Officers can provide information on warrants and payment options, including payment plans and community work.

We also deliver:

 Culturally-appropriate responses to local justice issues in partnership with the Koori community – We support local Koori community and government representatives to deliver programs and initiatives that address the over-representation of Aboriginal people in the Victorian justice system.

 Correctional facilities and prisons – The Loddon Mallee region hosts two of Victoria’s public prisons: Tarrengower Prison, a 72-bed minimum security facility for female prisoners and Loddon Prison, a 410-bed medium security facility for male prisoners. www.justice.vic.gov.au Department of Justice Loddon Mallee Region
