Douglas District Primary School Sport

The following schools are affiliated with Queensland School Sport in the Douglas District: - Port Douglas State School

- Mossman State School

- Julatten Sate School

- Miallo State School

- Wonga Beach State School

- Daintree State School

- Alexandra Bay State School

- St. Augustine’s State School

Each School is entitled to have as Committee members, two delegates from each affiliated school in the district. These delegates must be:

a) The Principal or his/her written nominee; and

b) The school’s sports co-ordinator.

The committee shall operate through an Executive which will be elected by and from the voting members at the Annual General Meeting and will consist of:

a) Chairperson, who must be ‘a principal or classified officer’;

b) Secretary; and

c) Treasurer (Currently the Port Douglas State School houses the Cost Centre for Douglas District Sport)

Minutes must be recorded by the secretary and forwarded to the Principal of each district school. A paper copy of the minutes must be kept in a Binder and be tabled at each meeting.

The first meeting of any given year is to be held in week 3 of term 1. Venue, date and time TBD. At this meeting the following items must be addressed:

- Nominate dates and times for the four meetings for the year. Ideally, one meeting to be held in week 3 of each term

- The AGM will be set for week 3 in Term 2. The form found by following the link below must be returned to Peninsula School Sport. http://www.pensport.eq.edu.au/districts.htm

One week’s notice is required if extra meetings are necessary. This must be In writing and emailed to all principals, committee members and persons who attend regularly.

Finance

Set district affiliation fee. Treasurer to assist Port Douglas State School’s Financial officer by providing the total enrolment figure for each school, so invoices can be issued. The treasurer must forward an annual financial 3 statement to the Regional School Sport Board with in one month of the AGC. If a treasurer is no longer in residence, the president or secretary will be responsible for this.

The Douglas District Sporting Committee will fund one TRS day per sport to cover replacing a staff member on a school day or to pay a teacher for attending a regional event on a weekend or if part time, a non-working day.

District Selection Trials for Regional Championships

Add chosen sporting events for that year to the Douglas District Calendar. In the Douglas District, Cross Country, Track and Field Sports and Swimming are annual events on this calendar. For these sports, all training and events will be done in school hours.

Trials for Netball, AFL and Rugby League will be held in term 1 on Friday February 27.

All schools must be informed of Regional Trials that will be attended in the given year. Students wishing to participate in any sport, must be issued with Appendix A. This form must be completed and returned to the appropriate Principal. These forms will be signed at the Principal’s discretion. Students are required to consistently demonstrate a commitment to the School’s Code of Behaviour, learning expectations and regular attendance. To be an appropriate candidate to represent the Douglas District, students must have demonstrated exemplary sportsmanship leading up to the event they have been nominated for.

It will be the responsibility of the school to organise for individuals to attend selection trials if a district trial is not being held.

Name a convenor for each sport and ensure contact details have been 4 recorded. If positions are not filled by those in attendance, advertise within the cluster for the required convenors.

For sports other than cross-country, track and field events and swimming, individual convenors must determine the process for selection, the location, date and time of the selection trial. If a team cannot be fielded for a particular sport, the convenor may select individual students who demonstrate considerable talent to ensure a positive experience at the next level. It will be the responsibility of the convenor to organise for these students to attend by gaining permission from the Regional Event Convenor.

Any training arrangements will be made by the convenor who will be responsible for disseminating this information to district schools, parents and students within an appropriate time frame. [Permission Letter – Appendix B]

The Role of the Convenor for a District Event

Organise the required venue for the trial.

Address costing if necessary.

Disseminate information, permission and medical forms to district principals, relevant staff and students.

Make provisions for sun protection and hydration. 5

The Role of the Convenor Responsible for a Regional Team

Consider transport options i.e. Bus or Private. Make the appropriate arrangements.

Provide District Principals with details of the event and a list of students participating. Make arrangements to have Peninsula forms signed and returned to the student. Note: The student must have these forms filled out correctly and have them at the event to hand to the convenor. If not the student will not be eligible to compete.

Collect Douglas District uniforms, currently housed at Mossman State School. Contact Laura Gray at [email protected] to make arrangements for collection.

Ensure all uniforms are returned on the day of the event and organise laundering. Uniforms must be returned to the Mossman State School. 6 Douglas District Sports Calendar

These are District and Regional Trials where the skill level is reasonably high.  Travel and supervision will be the responsibility of the parents for some sports.  Attendance record and Student behaviour will be considered before permission to participate is given from the school.
