TRANSIENT APPROVAL REQUEST TO TAKE COURSES AT ANOTHER INSTITUTION

When do I use a Transient Approval request form?

Students planning to register for any course at another institution with the intent of requesting that the course be transferred to Liberty must complete this form. Students must seek the advice of their DLP academic advisor when preparing this request.

What are some guidelines I need to be aware of before submitting this type of request?

1. Accreditation: Check Accreditation Status. 2. Transfer Policy: Please review the Transfer Policy. 3. Grade: Grades of “C” or better for undergraduate and “B” or better for graduate students will transfer. Courses earning grades of P or S are not transferable. Grades that are transferred are not included in the computation of your LU grade point average. 4. Academic Standing: Courses at another institution cannot be used to change your academic standing or serve as a reason for reinstatement following a dismissal. 5. Calendar System: If the other college/university is based on a calendar system other than semester hours, the credits will be converted to semester credit at the time of evaluation. 6. Graduation Requirements: Be aware of the graduation requirements for your degree completion plan, particularly the number of hours to be taken through Liberty University. 7. General Education Requirements: Undergraduate students should be aware of the Approved General Education Course List 8. Virginia Community College Course: Undergraduate students are not required to submit this request form for approved VCCS courses. Please refer to the Virginia Community College System Guide for a complete list of pre-approved courses.

How do I submit this request? 1. Complete the form, including the first 6 columns in the table. Incomplete forms will not be processed. 2. Provide a course description or course syllabus for the requested course.  If a course description was taken from a hardcopy, it must be photocopied/scanned directly from the school catalog that matches the year the course will be taken and it must be accompanied by a copy of school catalog’s cover page  If a course description was taken from a school’s website, copy and paste the course description on the body of the email and provide the specific web address  If the course description was taken from a PDF document, copy and paste the course description on the body of the email; provide the web address/link and remember to provide the exact page where the course description was taken from. 3. Email request form and course description information to [email protected] or you may fax the form to 434-455-1286.

Who evaluates my request and how long does it take to process? 1. If a course description/syllabus is provided, a representative from the DLP Office of Transfer Evaluations will evaluate your request within 5 -7 business days. 2. Students are advised to review the graduation requirements on their degree completion plan before taking courses through another institution.
