Orientation Program for II MBA Students On June 20th and 21st, 2011 at NIMS

Orientation Program for II year MBA students was organized to familiarize them with the challenges they have to face after the completion of the course. Experts from Industry and Academics were invited and 3 sessions per day was held. The students found the program to be highly beneficial.

June 20, 2011 Session 1 Topic: Industry expectation from an MBA Guest speaker: Dr. B Devamainthan Guest profile: Prof B Devamainthan (B.E., M.B.A., M.Phil., M.H.R.M., PH.D) is the Assistant Professor at the Institute Of Distance Education, University Of Madras. His expertise is in the fields of production and marketing. He has a commendable experience of 12 years as an academician. Session Overview: Prof B Devamainthan who is highly experienced in the field of Management Studies elaborated on the following issues: ● Scope of MBA to enhance career opportunities. ● Discussed the 5 C’s of Management - Character, Confidence, Commitment, Communication, Competence ● Scope of MBA in various industries. ● Expectation of an Employer.

Guest profile: Mr. R. Vivekanandan, (B sc. Computer application, MSW) is a result oriented professional with 5 years of experience in HRM. At present he is associated with Share Khan a leading stock broking company. He is an assistant manager for sales force recruitment. His core competencies include recruitment and resourcing, training and development, performance appraisal and salary administration, employee welfare and public relations. Mr. M. Senthilnathan (B sc., MBA) has an experience of 6 years in the field of sales and marketing. He started off as a business development executive with GATI and presently associated with Share Khan Ltd as a Territory Manager. He is responsible for recruiting candidates and handling the team. Session Overview: Sharekhan ltd is India’s leading online retail broking house with its presence through 1288 Share Shops in 325 cities and serving more than 10,50,000 customers across the nation. ● Basic operations of BSE and NSE. ● Importance of a D MAT account for share trading. ● The terms and conditions before investing into shares. ● Scope for students to become a franchisee. ● Certificate courses required to become a broker.

Session 3 Topic: interview skills (body language & etiquettes) Guest speaker: Mr. Muthiah Ramanathan Guest Profile: Mr. Muthiah Ramanathan is the Director of Mind Dynamics Center, he is also the President of the hypnotique circle serves as faculty in Academy of Insurance and Marketing and Management and also as visiting in Psychology Department, Bharathiar University. He holds Master Degree in Psychology and Psychotherapy from University of Madras and Institute of Psychotherapy and Management Science.

Session 1 Topic: Case study approach to Management Guest speaker: Dr. J. Khaja Sheriff Guest Profile: Dr. J. Khaja Sheriff holds a bachelor degree in Chemistry and also Master’s degree in Computer Application and Business Administration. He is the Assistant Professor in the Department of Management Studies, University of Madras. His project includes barriers of E-learning among UG and PG students in Chennai. Effectiveness of E-advertisement and E-shopping is his yet another project. Session Overview: Dr. Khaja Sheriff briefed on case study analysis. ● How to approach a case. ● Importance of case study for management students ● Significance of case study in today’s scenario in organizations.

Mahadevan (B.E., M.B.A., F.I.E, M.I.M.A.) is consultant energy, energy efficiency and bio-energy projects. He possesses over 35 years of experience in the areas of engineering and energy and as manager. He has presented papers in National & International conferences in the area of renewable energy, distributed generation and energy efficiency. Session Overview: ● Energy conservation ● Importance of renewable resources. ● Operation process of various energy generation plants.
