An ASUCD Senate Bill to allocate $520.67 for stickers, coffee sleeve stickers, condom stickers, 8.5x11 posters, and plastic bags from senate reserves to purchase 1,000 stickers, 2,000 coffee sleeve stickers, 200 condom stickers, 200 posters, 1,000 magnets and 500 resource bags.

BACKGROUND: Senator Savage and the Student Campus Climate Review Team is coordinating a month long campaign to raise awareness about sexual assault and health called “Let’s Talk About Sex” that is bringing together all organizations on campus working towards these goals. This is especially relevant because SAAAC and GASC are both heavily contributing to this campaign. There is an event planned for everyday of the month of April aimed to contribute to the education and awareness of UC Davis students on these topics. At these events we hope to hand out resource bags with on campus resources pertaining to sexual assault and health as well as mental health. Within those bags we would also want to advertise for all the events happening over the course of the month by adding stickers and condoms with the “Let’s Talk About Sex” logo on them.

This allocation will allow us to create a brand to advertise for all of these events. Stickers are a popular accessory for computers, phones, notebooks etc. thus making it an efficient marketing tool. Because of the intriguing name of our campaign, stickers will even more effectively serve to bring attention to sexual assault and health awareness events. Posters on the other hand will allow us to advertise around campus to individuals that have not yet been made aware of this campaign. The ASUCD Gender and Sexuality Commission has agreed to donate condoms to our campaign. We require 2x2 stickers to cover this logo with the “Let’s Talk About Sex” logo to use as a marketing tool. Since our campaign deals with sexual health awareness condoms allow us advertise events while simultaneously promoting sexual health. We also require funding for 500 plastic bags. These bags will contain all the information on the resources around campus pertaining to sexual assault, sexual health and mental health. They will allow us to efficiently raise awareness of the resources available on campus to people actively participating in events throughout the month. The magnets will allow students to have a concise permanent resource to refer to in the event of an emergency, making the reporting process clearer for anyone wanting to report.

The election of Senator Georgia Savage on the platform of sexual assault education and awareness demonstrates the demand by students for ASUCD to participate in promoting education and awareness of these issues. Additionally, we are coordinating with Senator Parteek Singh in regard to his platform of increased sexual health resources. His election also demonstrates further demand from students for the education and promotion of sexual health. Through this allocation ASUCD demonstrates its support and commitment to addressing these issues and improving campus climate. Senate Bill #56 Page 2 Section 1.
