Demolition Derby

RULES & REGULATIONS

$1000 PRIZE MONEY TO THE LAST CAR RUNNING A minimum of 10 cars and maximum of 20 cars will be permitted to enter the derby. If the minimum of 10 cars is not reached it will be up to the discretion of the Bowen Pastoral & Agricultural Show Society as to whether the event will be run. ENTRY: $50.00 incl. GST BOND: $50.00

The combined Bond and Entry Fee can be paid by cheque, cash, or money order, and must be either posted or lodged in person to the Secretary or Steward before 5.00pm June 18th 2014.

Secretary's Postal Address The Secretary Bowen Pastoral & Agricultural Show Society Inc. PO Box 495, Bowen, 4805, QLD Cancellations made after 6.00pm 18th June 2014 will incur a fee of $50 per vehicle. The $50.00 Bond will be refunded to the entrant provided the participating vehicle is removed from the Showground by 5.00pm Wednesday 26th June 2014. Any vehicles not removed from the Showground by this time will be removed by the Show Society and the Bond will be withheld to cover removal costs.

GENERAL

1. All competitors will be issued 2 trade passes to enter the Showground by 2pm.

2. The winner of the competition will be the last vehicle still being driven. 3. The Judge reserves the right to disqualify any driver at any time. 4. The Judge's decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into. 5. All drivers enter at their own risk and must read, sign, understand and agree to the attached Indemnity and Release Waiver. 6. All drivers must be 17 years or over and hold a current drivers licence. 7. No passengers will be permitted to travel in a vehicle. 8. All cars must be trucked to and from the Showground. 9. Drivers must wear approved helmet, overalls, gloves and closed in shoes. (No Nylon Clothing).

All competitors must have their cars ON TRAILERS at the old Rodeo ri ng (Richmond Road end) before 2 pm on Tues 24th June 2014 10. . Any car that has not been delivered by 2pm will pay a late fee of $20.00.

11. Any car not delivered by 3.00pm will be disqualified and no refund of paid moneys will occur

12. Scrutineering of cars will between 3 – 5 pm on the day. ALL CARS MUST ARRIVE AT THE GROUND WITH ALL CONDITIONS ADHERED TO. NO WORK WILL BE PERMITTED ON THE GROUND. ANY CAR FAILING TO MEET ALL SAFETY REQUIREMENTS MUST BE REMOVED. The Entry Fee and Bond will be forfeited as it will be too late for the Show society to find replacements.

13. All drivers will be breath-tested 30 minutes before the event. Drivers under the influence of alcohol or prohibited drugs will not be permitted to compete. 14. A drivers’ meeting, which will involve derby officials (show committee members), will be held immediately after breath testing. THIS IS COMPULSORY. Any driver or attendant not present at the meeting will not be permitted to compete. 15. All competitors must supply an attendant for use in the set up of the Derby and for use in the search line at the completion of the Derby 16. At the completion of the derby and after the cars have been removed from the ring all competitors and there additional person will help with the search line. Failure to do so will results in the forfeiture of the bond 17. Collection of bond money & light refreshments after the event.

18. The fire brigade with adequate personnel, volunteer rescue squad with a vehicle and personnel for the removal of any competitor trapped in a vehicle and Ambulance will also be in attendance at the Show for the demolition derby).

19. Competitors will have been scrutineered and entry fees paid and receipts issued by this time.

20. No driver or attendant will consume alcohol less than 12 hours prior to the Derby and anyone found intoxicated or under the influence of drugs in the scrutineering area will be removed and if they are an entrant in the Derby will not be able to participate.

21. The winner will be breath tested after the event.

22. All competitors from derby are to be prepared by 8.00pm to START.

VEHICLE SPECIFICATIONS

Note: All rules are aimed to ensure as much as possible the safety of the Driver and the Spectators.

COMPULSORY: 1. Any sedan, station wagon, ute or sedan based panel van is permitted except those with a full chassis construction. No 4WD’s, trucks or minivans permitted. 2. Vehicles with too much rust may not be allowed to enter. 3. All external chrome work, lights, handles, protruding objects must be removed. (Except bumper bars) All glass to be removed NOT broken in. 4. No Plastic or fibreglass bumper bars 5. All interior linings, handles, rear view mirrors removed, all cars cleaned out. (Loose objects to be removed) 6. All bonnets, doors, boot lids / tailgates to be welded or chained. (Minimum chain link thickness 6–millimetres) 7. No tow bars to be fitted. 8. Mud guards must be standard (must not be cut away) and must not be reinforced 9. Rims to be manufacturer’s diameter for that make and model; tyres can be changed. 10. Bumper-bar to be in original position; only original bumper mounts to be used. Top of bumper bar not to be higher than 700mm from the ground. 11. Radiator to be standard car type. No extra radiators, tanks, etc. No other radiator type devices to be fitted. 12. Radiator to be filled with water only (NO COOLANT). If stop leak additives are needed consult scrutineers. 13. Original heater in heater box may be left connected. 14. Original type of motor and gearbox. 15. Brakes must be operational. 16. No structural rust in seat mounts or seat belt mountings. 17. Standard seats belts to be used. 18. Battery relocated to passenger front floor, secured with battery clamps (No wire, rope or self tapping crews) then covered with rubber matting. 19. Only 5 litre of fuel in tank to be used. Fuel tank must be securely mounted but not within 800mm from rear of the car. 20. A hole must be punched in old fuel tank or tank be removed. 21. Exhaust to extend to a minimum of gearbox cross members 22. Driver’s door painted with large white cross. 23. Devices to create smoke are not permitted. 24. Vehicle not to be excessively smoky. 25. No spare tyre in vehicle. 26. 300 millimetres by 300 millimetre minimum size white flag on dowel within reach of driver. Bottom of flag no lower than 300 millimetres above roofline. Holder for flag to be set up within reach of driver outside the driver’s door. This must be viewable for all other drivers 27. Bar work can consist of a minimum 75mm x 50mm (3” x 2”) steel bar or equivalent across driver’s side door to protect hips and legs or the driver’s side door can be filled with concrete, 28. Two pipes, one bar behind seat between door pillars and one across dash for structural protection. 29. 30. Back-up throttle may be fitted. 31. Suspension can be locked up. 32. Modifications may be permitted to cars with excessive rust or been in previous derbies. Scrutineers to be contacted before modifications are made. Modifications to be noted on entry form. 33. Scrutineers to be shown work done at scrutineering. 34. Any modifications may not reinforce car in any way. If in the scrutineers opinions these modifications strengthen the car more than it was originally made, the car maybe disqualified 35. No flashing beacons / alarms / sirens, etc.

Optional 1. Mesh may be fitted securely to Drivers door, windows but Driver must be able to exit through the front door window or windscreen. 2. Diff can be welded 3. Fan can be removed 4. Wiring may be changed. 5. Seat can be changed. 6. Roll bar or roll cage in addition to required bar work is optional and may not to protrude back past driver’s seat or forward of inside of firewall.

Make sure your vehicles comply with the above specifications Vehicles inspected from 3pm on day of competition _ In the event of fire or other emergencies The Bowen Pastoral & Show Society is responsible for calling any Emergency Services required. Any expenses incurred for Ambulance Services utilised by a Competitor are the responsibility of the Competitor.

RACE RULES

1. An area will be marked by tyres on the Arena to show the boundary. Any vehicle driving over this boundary will be eliminated. 2. Once you have gone over this boundary or been eliminated the driver must turn off the engine immediately and raise white flag 3. Any vehicle deliberately ramming in the driver’s side front door of another vehicle will be disqualified. 4. No vehicle is permitted to hit a surrendered, eliminated or out of bounds vehicle. 5. Only First and Reverse gear must be used at all times. 6. If a vehicle stops, a maximum of 15 seconds will be permitted to restart the vehicle If the vehicle does not move within this time the vehicle will be eliminated and the white flag raised. 7. A spotlight will be used to disqualify drivers. If it is flashed into your car, this is a warning. If you get this warning you need to be more careful or do more hitting. When shone for more than more than 3 seconds at your car you are disqualified. Stop competing and raise white flag. Do not argue with officials. 8. Driver is to place white flag in holder as soon as their vehicle is immobilized, showing that the vehicle is no longer in the event and no longer a target. 9. Drivers must remain in their vehicles until the completion of the event. 10. Any competitor deemed not to be participating in the Demolition of other vehicles will be disqualified.
