James W. Ford, P.E. Senior Associate Professional Overview Jim has over 40 years of extensive experience in transportation engineering and planning, traffic and pedestrian operations, parking analysis and operation, traffic signal systems studies and designs, Intelligent Transportation Systems Projects (ITS), Traffic Calming, Context Sensitive Solutions Projects (CSS or CSD), corridor studies, demand modeling, traffic impact studies, site development, and highway design. His career has included experience in State and Municipal agencies, initially with CONNDOT and later with the City of Stamford as its Director of Traffic and Parking. During his career he has been involve in a number of Transit related studies involving ITS applications. He was the Project Manager for the Hartford Early Deployment Study and has developed systems for Transit Services and routing in Norwalk and Stamford. Jim Ford is a Registered Professional Engineer in 8 States. In addition he holds the prestigious rank of Fellow –Life Member in the Institute of Transportation Engineers the national organization for Traffic and Transportation Engineers. He is also active with the American Consulting Engineers of Connecticut, and serves on the ACEC Legislative Liaison Committee. Jim joined the WTS Mentor Program and has participated in that program designed to guide upcoming young transportation engineers in developing their skills and knowledge. Jim holds a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Connecticut with specialties in Transportation and Geotechnical Engineering. In 2000 he was named ITE Conn. Chapter Transportation Engineer of the Year. Jim has always been active in his communities and currently serves in the capacity of Selectman (an elected position) in Colchester, CT. He has also served as Chairman of the Colchester Planning and Zoning Commission for 12 years as well as officer positions on the Southeastern CT Council of Governments Regional Planning Commission. On the home front he enjoys gardening, home improvement projects and personal computing projects. He just bought a set of golf clubs so we’ll see how that goes.
